Now before you think I’ve lost my mind, let me explain the landmine reverse curls. Originally, I saw John Meadows do these with Eugene Teo and hands down this variant of the reverse curl single-handed (literally haha) gave me mind muscle connection with my brachialis. Essentially, the landmine reverse curl starts similar as a conventional reverse curl when lengthened but as you go through the concentric you naturally supinate from a pronated position to a more neutral position allowing your grip to be less of a limiting factor AND aligns the mechanics of the movement with the function of your brachioradialis. Now the key factor in determining whether a curl will bias the biceps vs the brachioradialis and brachialis is wrist position. As we know, a pronated and neutral grip position is superior for the brachioradialis and brachialis — which is exactly what the landmine reverse curl take your arms through (pronated at the bottom, neutral near the top). Here’s what you need to know: A pronated grip instantly weakens the biceps and shifts the load onto the brachialis and brachioradialis, the muscles that actually make your forearms look meaty and your arms look thick from the side. But Larry wasn’t doing partials for no reason. In his own words: “It works in the middle.” And he wasn’t wrong. Research shows the brachioradialis fires the hardest once the elbow is flexed into the mid to upper range, especially in a reverse curl. Biomechanics studies also show it has better leverage in that same mid to top portion of the curl, while the biceps take over more at the bottom. So no, you don’t need to copy Larry’s exact partials. You can get the same effect by doing reverse curls facing a cable stack and slightly leaning back to keep the tension in that mid to top range where the brachioradialis actually works the hardest.
