ROP संबंधित तथ्य : (Retinopathy of Prematurity) यह एक आँख की बीमारी है जो समय से पहले जन्मे बच्चों (Premature Baby) में जन्म के 4–8 सप्ताह के बाद विकसित होती है। इस बीमारी का पता लगाने के लिए हमारे अस्पताल में नियमित रूप से आँखों की जाँच आँख के कुशल डॉक्टर द्वारा की जाती है। बीमारी का पता लगने पर इसका इलाज लेज़र या दवा (VEGF inhibitor) द्वारा किया जाता है। जो बच्चे follow-up में नहीं आते हैं, उनमें यह बीमारी जन्म के 4–8 सप्ताह के बाद धीरे-धीरे (slowly) विकसित होती है। इसलिए बच्चों को follow-up के लिए बुलाया जाता है। यदि बच्चा follow-up में इस अस्पताल में नहीं लाया गया, तो उसका follow-up किसी अन्य hospital/doctor के पास हुआ है। अगर कोई मरीज follow-up में नहीं आता है, तो किसी भी प्रकार की complication के लिए hospital/doctor को जिम्मेदार ठहराना उचित नहीं है।

Although the pediatrician advised ROP screening, the parents unfortunately ignored the recommendation. 😟 Now, the child has developed Stage 5 Retinopathy of Prematurity, resulting in a white reflex (leukocoria) in both eyes. The disease is currently inoperable. Had the child undergone ROP screening within 30 days of birth, their vision could have been easily saved. ---------- Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a potentially blinding eye disorder that affects premature and low birth weight infants. Timely screening—ideally within 30 days of birth—is critical for early detection and treatment. Parents of preterm babies must be educated about the importance of ROP screening, especially if the baby required NICU care or oxygen support. Preventable blindness from ROP can be avoided with simple, timely intervention. Healthcare providers should emphasize this during discharge counseling to ensure no baby misses this life-saving opportunity.
