As a physio and a runner, I am well aware of some of the most common and avoidable causes of injuries in fellow runners! See below for some tips: Underfuelling: This is a big one and can cause all sorts of issues from impaired recovery to loss of bone density. A really helpful resource for REDS - Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport is @project_reds_ Lack of rest: A continued lack of rest and sleep makes it harder for your body to heal. Tissue needs the chance to repair and regenerate after training, so take your rest seriously. Increasing mileage too quickly: If your bones, tendons, ligaments etc have not been conditioned for running at this intensity then they can become overwhelmed, leading to overuse injuries. Even if you used to train at this level but have taken a break, you need to build back up steadily. Guidance suggests an increase of no more than 10-15% in your mileage each week (Runners Need) Inappropriate footwear: This can cause anything from blisters to shin pain. Just because you’ve seen someone on social media wearing a specific shoe, does not mean it will suit you and your running style. Make sure your trainers are comfortable, not too tight, and replace them regularly! Your quads need to be able to stabilize the knee and hip while producing power with each stride. A common mistake I see runners making is that they only work on the strength and power side with heavy lifts. It’s important to also add in stability movements especially in single leg For a full strength program for runners that includes strength, power and stability, go through the Runners Complete Program- 12 weeks of workouts so you can run stronger and prevent injury (linked in my bio)

That’s why I went down to @cotswoldoutdoor @runnersneed today, to get a gait analysis and custom shoe fitting done! The team there were so helpful, and manager @steelersfan57 was really knowledgeable. Harry analysed my foot size, shape and arches before putting me in some @on . He then did a AI gait analysis to determine what shoes are the best for me. He brought out some @brooksrunning and @hoka and the Hoka’s fit my feet perfectly. This was a great experience, and I would highly recommend Runners Need. The team can help you find the most comfortable, and efficient shoe for you! #physio #runningshoes #stabilityshoe
