Watching a stingray eat a fish can be surprising because most people expect a big bite, but stingrays actually use suction to pull food into their mouths.
Their mouths are on the underside of their bodies, and they crush prey with strong jaw plates instead of sharp teeth.

This way, they can search for snacks in the sand, often in the form of worms or mollusks, like clams, oysters, or mussels. To find their next meal, stingrays possess ampullae of Lorenzini, just like sharks, that help them sense electrical signals from their nearby, often-buried prey. Many species of stingrays have strong jawbones that can crack the shells of their favorite seafloor snacks. When they do decide to leave the comfort of the sand, stingrays move the sides of their flat, round bodies in a wave-like motion.
