But watch what’s happening here ⬆️ The top swimmer is stretching her arm as far as she can over the water before entry — and those red arrows show exactly what’s happening: she’s creating a wall of resistance, slamming the brakes on her own momentum. Every stroke is fighting the water instead of working with it. Now look below ⬇️ His hand enters the water earlier and spears forward beneath the surface, splitting the water like an arrow. Side kick drills are a great way to understand how to position your head when breathing in freestyle. By removing the arm stroke, they let you focus only on body alignment and head rotation. When breathing, the goal isn’t to lift the head out of the water but to rotate with the body. If the head lifts, both eyes come out of the water and the body loses alignment, which often makes the hips drop and disrupts the stroke. The correct position is when the ear, cheek and one eye stay in the water while the mouth reaches the surface to inhale. This keeps the body balanced and allows you to breathe without disturbing your stroke. #swimcoach #swimtechnique #swimfreestyle #howtoswim to swim
