MI🚨 Handling the “underperformer” PART 2 👇
🧠 When someone you manage keeps making the same mistakes and you try to enquire about whether something is going on or whether they are ok and they respond by saying “everything is fine” this can be incredibly frustrating as a manager as it’s hard to know what support to offer.
💡When you find yourself in this situation, I would recommend changing the dynamic so you encourage your direct report to start taking some accountability (supportively).
▶️ In this scenario I show an example of how you can encourage someone in a supportive way to take accountability so that the responsibility for addressing this issue starts to be shared between you and your direct report. This way you are more likely to come up with an effective plan.
🚨 It is also important to note that if there isn’t trust between you and your direct report, they may not feel comfortable to confide in you if they’re struggling. As a manager it’s really important that you create a safe space.
