Here’s your weekly dose of mobility! This exercise works on active hip internal and hip external rotation, hip extension and passive groin mobility. Rotation is literally currency for our hips- so it’s time to cash in on some gains! 💪 I recommend adding this into your routine a few times a week if you can! You can also use your arms to help you get up or hold onto something if the lift up portion is challenging for you! FRSC & FRAs @coach.caya⁠ 📍Boulder, CO⁠ ⁠ 💨Over-Speed Eccentrics💨⁠ ⁠ Training tissue capacity, specifically connective tissue (inter / intra muscular & tendons primarily) is extremely important for injury mitigation & athletic performance. ⁠ ⁠ Always start isometric, period. ⁠ Learn to handle load IN lengthened angles and positions without motion, build isometric capacity, control and awareness. As Isometrics progress in load and duration begin to incorporate eccentrics, loading TO length. Build confidence and capacity moving challenging load to lengthened joint angles & positions. As eccentrics progress begin to incorporate SPEED, to length with VELOCITY. ⁠ ⁠ “Speed is the tide that raises all boats.” ⁠ I don’t know who first said this but I love the saying. ⁠ ⁠ Learn to control load AT length , TO length, TO length at HIGH VELOCITY. That, I believe is a missing piece in a lot of training & rehab programs. Where is the speed? ⁠ ⁠ Life happens fast, falls come quick, contact sports are high velocity environments. Build capacity, teach the neurology to express that capacity quickly. ⁠ ⁠ How fast can you be strong? is a question that is not asked enough in training. ⁠ ⁠ An over-speed eccentric is a fast eccentric movement with a catch close to end range. The purpose of this is to train & stimulate both the connective tissue system & nervous system to coordinate in a timely fashion, expressing stiffness as well as end range control. These are NOT step one, but these are an extremely lucrative tool once tissue architecture (structure) & capacity (robustness) is built to prep for high speed situations. ⁠ ⁠ Some may argue that movements like these are only beneficial for competitive athletes, I would have to disagree. The quicker we can call upon our biology via our neurology (coordination) & the more structurally sound that biology is to handle forces at high velocity, the more protected we are from things like unexpected falls or accidents. ⁠ ⁠ Is speed a consideration in your training & not only in the lower body but upper body & torso as well? ⁠ ⁠

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have a ton of time to do a million exercises, so over the years I have combined several different mobility movements to get the most bang for your buck, especially if you are short on time. The 6 exercises here simultaneously work both hip and spine mobility and they feel AHHHMAZING! Give these a try: 1️⃣ 90/90 rotational leans 2️⃣ Child pose walk arounds 3️⃣ Open Frog thoracic rotation 4️⃣ Up dog to lizard 5️⃣ Hip IR pull over to reach 6️⃣ Fig 4 + forward fold Reminder: If you love my mobility posts, you will love my new guided mobility program.
