One of the most common questions I get is how I make the floating frames for my paintings. Here’s a quick tutorial reel showing you how I do it. 🎨

To create the frame you will need:
✅️ Corner moulding (L-shaped wood)
✅️ A handsaw and a miter box (or a miter saw if you want to use power tools)
✅️ Measuring tape and a pencil
✅️ A band clamp and wood glue
✅️ Sanding paper
✅️ Screwdriver and tiny screws
✅️ Paper towels
First check the measurements of the canvas. In the example we used a 50x50 cm canvas. To create the floating effect, the frame needs to be longer than the sides of the canvas. I went for a fairly small floating effect and cut each side to 50.5 cm. With a square canvas, you can simply measure and cut one side, and then use that to measure the remaining sides.
Assemble the frame to ensure it is of proper size. Then apply glue and tighten the frame using the band clamp. Once the glue has dried, sand any rough spots, pencil marks and excess glue. Finish the frame with the product of your choosing, such as wood wax, paint or stain. Once the finish is dry, attach the frame to the canvas from the back using tiny screws. Use for example playing cards to position the canvas right in the middle of
the frame on each side.
