Here’s a breakdown of common factoring techniques: 1. Greatest Common Factor (GCF): Concept: Find the largest factor that divides all terms of the polynomial. Factor out the GCF from each term. This is done by bringing the GCF out and then beginning a parenthesis. Example: 6x² + 9x = 3x(2x + 3) 2. Factoring by Grouping: Concept: Used for polynomials with four or more terms. Group terms together and factor out common factors from each group. If done correctly, you’ll have a common binomial factor that can be factored out. Example: x³ + 2x² + 3x + 6 = x²(x + 2) + 3(x + 2) = (x + 2)(x² + 3) 3. Factoring Trinomials: Concept: Factoring expressions of the form ax² + bx + c.
