MCThis is the Y-drill.
One of many drills I have been working on over the winter to help improve my Change of Direction.
I can see massive improvements from the first video to the final one. I’m getting my foot outside my centre of mass a lot easier and the movement looks more fluid. Though still some work to do!
Here are some queues I am working on when completing this drill.
1. Building up enough speed over the 10m before changing
2. Getting my foot outside my centre of mass
3. Getting my body nice and low (something I need to work on a little bit more)
4. Staying in control and not falling over after making the switch.
After getting used to this, you can also cut back inside or add in a turn.
Being able to change direction quickly will make it easier to get past defenders or keep up with a tricky forward. Additionally it will allow you more time on the ball to make better decisions
Try this drill over the coming weeks,
2 sets 3 reps each direction with 60 seconds break between each rep 👍
