This wavemaker at the deep ocean basin at the national university of Singapore is quite a sight. The 184 paddles work together to create whatever waves the researchers need. The tank is 60 x 48 x 12m deep with a central pit that gives a 50m deep section. The tank is used for all sorts of offshore testing, from wave energy to offshore structures. Singapore’s first ocean basin facility at the Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore (TCOMS) is dedicated to the Marine & Offshore Engineering, Maritime and other ocean-related industries. TCOMS integrates research and industry expertise to co-create, validate and stress test innovative concepts and solutions to address real-world challenges. It is a joint venture between A*STAR and National University of Singapore, supported by Singapore Economic Development Board - EDB and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore - MPA.
