A Jordanian college student hacked his university servers to change his failing grades got caught by administrators but now he runs a three billion dollar company
Meet Amjad Masad the founder of Replit who got barred from exams at Princess Sumaya University for skipping too many classes to code in internet cafes instead
But heres what nobody talks about Amjad spent three weeks hacking non-stop into the basement servers to pass himself and graduate
When the university caught him instead of expelling him they were blown away by the technical complexity and offered him a job securing their systems that summer
He moved to Silicon Valley in 2013 worked at Facebook building JavaScript infrastructure like Babel and React Native He tried to get Zuckerberg interested in his browser coding idea but everyone rejected him
But Paul Graham had discovered his work going viral on Hacker News and Sam Altman personally sent him a DM for a meeting and they accepted him anyway
On September 10th 2025 Replit announced a 250 million dollar funding round and a three billion dollar valuation with 40 million users growing revenue from 10 million to 150 million in less than a year
