NEThe Underhook Series 🪝
One of the most popular and useful control points in grappling. Used on the feet to get a takedown, or on bottom to secure an escape, the Underhook is a very important concept that can help you take your wrestling to the next level… peep game:
Throw By - the most basic attack with an Underhook, but it works. Essentially just using the Underhook to throw your opps arm by to open their back. Take it :)
Inside Single - Same move really as the throw by, but if you’re not totally able to clear the arm it should give enough space to slide it down to the inside single. Dump them like your ex immediately.
Knee Pick - Going off the inside single, if your opp is ready for it and step back then they open up the far knee. Pick that 💩
Outside - Of course one of the most common takedowns would open up from here. All it takes is a solid back step and you can load them right into it as you change levels.
Inside Trip - Probably one of the slickest moves to come from the underhook, and guaranteed crowd pleaser if done properly. It can actually be done to both sides but I decided to show the side that uses the UH.
DOUBLE UNDERS: Probably the most dominant position there is in the hand fight. Greco is basically all about fighting for this position because if you can secure it it’s almost a guarantee takedown/throw/pin.
Foot Sweep - so much control with the double unders not only makes it hard to see your legs but makes it effortless to trip them. Definitely worth checking your opponents balance before going big.
Throw - the ultimate. Hardly even a throw and more less and bully them over because you already did the hard work. Take a big step in and rotate them over. Now they are down and demoralized 👍🏾
The underhook is more than a move, it’s a necessary concept that any grappler looking to get to the next level should understand.
