🔹VISUALIZATION🔹 This Winter Olympics, every elite athlete is visualizing themselves performing before they compete. They’ve prepared years for this, so the last piece to their preparation is visualization. All athletes should be doing this. When you visualize, focus on feel. The more you can tap into the feelings within your sport, the more vivid and effective your visualizations will be 🧠 Follow @findjoeflow for more mental game tips 📈 • • • #olympics #winterolympics #visualization #mentaltraining #athletes

The Winter Olympics have arrived! Are you tuning in to watch the world’s top athletes compete on the biggest stage? While physical training is essential, mental preparation plays an equally important role. Discover how skiers use visualization to sharpen their performance and create mental blueprints that guide every movement on the slopes. Power of visualization 💥 I came across this ESPN Originals video of Olympic skiers visualising their run before they leave the start, and I wanted to share it because it shows something very important. The brain loves familiarity. When athletes imagine a situation in detail, the nervous system begins to recognize it. When the real moment arrives, there is often less hesitation and more clarity in decision-making. Visualization, however, works best when it is done deliberately. You choose what you see. You choose what you feel. You choose how you want to respond. There is a well-known study from the University of Chicago where basketball players were divided into three groups. One group practiced free throws physically, one group visualized successful shots, and one group did not practice. The group that visualized improved almost as much as the group that trained on the court. Mental repetitions help the brain build familiarity. This is why athletes across different sports use visualization, and it is something that can absolutely be practiced. In the next reel, I’ll explain how players can approach this before games so they can use it independently.

Visualization in Action! I came across this amazing video on @espnw @espnoriginals showing how Olympic skiers practice visualization before every run to perform at their absolute best. 🔊🔊 When visualising, they close their eyes and: ⛷️Mentally rehearse every turn, jump, and landing (down to the smallest detail) ⛷️Hear the sounds of skis carving the snow and the crowd cheering ⛷️Feel every shift in weight and balance as if they were on the slope This level of mental rehearsal: ✅ Minimises errors and improves precision ✅ Boosts confidence under pressure ✅ Sharpens reflexes and control on the course This is not limited to high performance athletes. I have used it for every level of activity and rehabilitation (joint and neurological). 🤓 Need proof? One of the most compelling demonstrations of this phenomenon comes from researchers at Ohio University. In one study, they immobilized the wrists of a group of participants in casts for four weeks. Half of the participants were instructed to perform regular mental imagery exercises, imagining they were flexing their immobile wrist. The other half did nothing. The results were astounding. The group that performed the mental flexes lost 50% LESS strength than the non-participating group, simply by using their minds. Another landmark study from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation produced similarly remarkable results. In this experiment, one group physically exercised their little finger, while another group simply concentrated on imagining the flexing of that same finger. The group that performed the physical exercises increased their finger strength by an average of 53%. Amazingly, the group that relied on mental imagery alone increased their strength by 35%. Elite skiers use visualization as part of their training, mentally running the course and feeling each turn through their entire body before they ever leave the start gate. By repeatedly rehearsing the race in their mind, confidence increases because the brain processes it as a lived experience rather than something unfamiliar. When focus narrows to just the course and the body moving through it, athletes enter a flow state where distractions disappear and performance feels instinctive. The clearer and more detailed the visualization, the more likely the body is to execute under pressure. (Clips from: @reuschwinter, Olympics) #theinnergame #skiing #olympics #sports

THE SCIENCE: I came across this amazing video on ESPN showing how Olympic skiers practice visualisation before every run to perform at their absolute best. (sound on - it’s incredible) Olympic skiers are some of the highest-performing athletes in the world. They use process and negative visualisation extensively. When visualising, they close their eyes and: - Mentally rehearse every turn, jump, and landing (down to the smallest detail) - Hear the sounds of skis carving the snow and the crowd cheering - Feel every shift in weight and balance as if they were on the slope When you visualise like this, your brain fires as if you were actually skiing. This level of mental rehearsal: - Minimises errors and improves precision - Boosts confidence under pressure - Sharpens reflexes and control on the course Top coaches insist it’s non-negotiable - decades of Olympic training show it makes a huge difference to performance. I’m not an Olympic skier, but I use this exact technique in my own performance and so can you. For example: - A high-pressure presentation or speech - Improving your sales calls or negotiations - Preparing for a big race or athletic goal - Difficult conversations as a leader - Nailing your personal best in any skill Training your mind trains your performance. Yet 99% of people don’t do it. What could you visualise today to perform better tomorrow? All credit for the video goes to ESPN. I don’t own any of the footage or copyright. But am sharing for education and awareness. If the owner wants me to take it down DM me. Happy to :)

If you haven’t seen this ESPN video of Olympic skiers using the power of visualisation before their runs, please stop scrolling and watch it. Look at them, eye closed, bodies moving, completely locked into their mental rehearsal. They’re feeling every turn, every shift in weight, every moment of that course - before they’ve even pushed off. That’s what mastery of your mental game looks like. These athletes aren’t just thinking about skiing. They’re experiencing it. Their bodies are responding to what’s happening in their minds. So why does this matter for you? Because your brain processes vivid mental imagery almost identically to the real physical experiences. When you mentally rehearse with this level of detail and emotion, you’re activating the same neural pathways you’ll use in competition. This is how I use visualisation with the athletes I work with: Before competition - We don’t just visualise the perfect performance. We walk through the entire experience. The journey to the venue, the warm up, the moment before you start, how you handle the pressure, what you’ll do if something unexpected happens. By the time you show up, your nervous system recognises the situation as familiar. Skills development - That technical element you can’t quite nail? We rehearse it mentally rehearse it alongside your physical practice. Your brain learns the pattern, your body follows. Progress speeds up. Confidence - When you’ve mentally executed your performance dozens of times- felt the success, felt the emotions, known what it’s like to deliver - your brain starts to believe ‘I’ve done this before’. Handling pressure moments - We deliberately rehearse your high-stakes scenarios. The one that make your heart race: the more you expose your nervous system, the less threatening they become. Watch these skiers again, they’re not just imagining success, they’re living the entire experience in their nervous system before it happens. This is what taking control of your sport looks like. “The more I run the course in my mind, the more confident I am when I’m in the starting gate because I feel like I’ve already run the race.” - @lindseyvonn & others Whether you realize it or not, you visualize during sports or mentally rehearse naturally. Everyone thinks in pictures. Some athletes unintentionally have recurring images of missed opportunities, injuries, mistakes and losses. There is one thing that separates elite athletes from average athletes… Elite athletes utilize the power of guided imagery or visualization. Imagery has long been a part of elite sports and many Olympic athletes have mastered the skill. Guided visualization or imagery for athletes is consciously controlling the images or directing an athletic script in your head. One example of guided imagery that you having unknowingly used is when your coach was teaching you a new skill. You created an image in your mind of how the skill should look or the successful execution of the skill. Guided visualization or imagery is purposely rehearsing a skill, routine or performance in your mind’s eye to program your body for success. However, sports visualization or mental imagery is more than just a visual experience. Many athletes prefer to feel movements and engage in the kinesthetic past of imagery. -> this is the exact same habit top producers in sales and real estate have. Their morning routine consists of visualizing the entire day. They walk through each part of their schedule and walk through the best-case-scenario for each activity. This gets the in the flow state. Learn how to visualize. This 1 skill will completely change your personal and professional business. 🧠 Visualization is key for top athletes and salespeople. #visualize #visualization #visualizations #mindset #olympics 🎥 | reel remixed from @espnoriginals & @espnw

In Olympic Skeleton at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, athletes don’t just prepare physically — they prepare mentally first. Before launching head-first down the ice chute, they mentally rehearse every curve, vibration, and moment of pressure. Visualization allows the brain to experience the performance before it happens, reducing fear, sharpening focus, and strengthening confidence. And this isn’t only for elite sport. You can use visualization in everyday life: • rehearse a difficult conversation before you have it • see yourself delivering that presentation with calm and clarity • mentally walk through a challenge instead of avoiding it • feel the emotions of success before the moment arrives Your brain doesn’t fully distinguish between vividly imagined experience and real experience — which means visualization builds familiarity, emotional regulation, and readiness. Performance is created twice: first in the mind, then in reality. What are you visualising yourself stepping into next? #Visualization #MentalPerformance #GrowthMindset #Confidence #skeleton
