Struggling with bimanual coordination as a hypermobile person is more common than you think. Tasks like buttoning shirts, playing guitar or cutting food can feel much harder when proprioception, sensory processing and cross hemisphere communication are working against you. Hypermobility often comes with proprioceptive difficulty, neurodivergent processing and even skipped crawling patterns, all of which make two handed tasks feel confusing or tiring. The good news is that you can train this. Working one side of the body at the same time as the other helps build better communication between the hemispheres of the brain and improves control over time. #hypermobility #EDS #HSD #chronicpain #propriocpetion

Ever hear someone say, “I wish I was flexible like you?” Well… they might want to be careful what they wish for. Living in a hypermobile body is a lot more complicated than most people realize. Figuring out where the heck your body is in space can feel weirdly challenging. 👉That’s why I created Ground Control, an intro to stability and pain management group coaching program for hypermobile humans! 👉Ground Control starts Monday March 30, and doors open Monday March 23. Stay tuned for more info! This reel shows just a few examples of the extra work a bendy body has to do all day long to keep joints feeling somewhat stable and less painful. That’s a lot of extra load on your nervous system. One working theory is that this constant demand may contribute to the higher sympathetic tone we often see in hypermobile humans. There’s even speculation that it could play a role in the overlap between hypermobility, ADHD, and autism. The root cause is still being debated, but the pattern is hard to ignore. All that extra effort to stay upright and stable can absolutely contribute to fatigue. And that’s before you layer in things like MCAS, dysautonomia, GI dysfunction, and everything else that tends to travel with us. The good news is that there are a lot of things we can train to make this endless mental checklist a little easier. You can train this. We can improve proprioception. We can build deep stabilizer strength. We can regulate the nervous system to downgrade that excessive sympathetic tone. These things aren’t easy, but they are possible and I see improvements in my hypermobile patients and clients all the time. We just need the right approach that’s individualized to really meet your body where it’s at. The hypermobility posture guide is a great 1st step if you need i! Comment the word GUIDE and I’ll send it to you! #EhlersDanlosSyndrome #hEDS #EDS #Hypermobility #HSD

Yesterday I shared what isn’t included in the Beighton score, and today I’m showing you some of those joints in action - neck, shoulders, ribcage, jaw, hips, feet - because they absolutely influence how a hypermobile body functions day to day. For context, I’m a 9/9 on the Beighton score, and many of my other joints move even more than it captures. Some have been painful at times, some aren’t, and some have stiffened over the years. Bodies adapt! Strength training, bracing strategies, injury, and protective tension can all reduce visible range without changing the underlying connective tissue pattern. The Beighton score assesses nine specific joints and is part of the current diagnostic criteria for hEDS. It’s helpful and standardized, but it doesn’t assess the cervical spine, rib mechanics, shoulder translation, jaw mobility, foot behaviour, or pelvic organization. It also doesn’t capture what your mobility looked like historically before stiffness developed. Diagnosis of HSD or hEDS is layered and naunced. It considers historical hypermobility, tissue qualities such as skin extensibility and mild fragility, and broader systemic patterns - not just one score. A few bendy joints don’t automatically mean a hereditary connective tissue disorder, and a lower score doesn’t automatically rule one out either. It’s also important to remember that not every provider has specific training in hypermobility. I’m not an oncologist, and general practitioners aren’t automatically specialists in connective tissue disorders. Some have a deep interest and knowledge base, and some simply haven’t had exposure to it. I had to educate myself, review the criteria carefully, and bring my findings to my GP. I know that seems unfair and frustrating but it’s true ❤️ As a physio, I assess the whole body — how load is shared, where compensation happens, which areas are excessively mobile, which have stiffened, and how it all connects. My goal is to help you understand the framework so you can piece your own picture together with clarity and walk into appointments informed. #HypermobilityEducation #hEDS #HSD #BeightonScore #WholeBodyAssessment Education only, not medical advice ❤️

Most people think hypermobility is just about flexible joints But if you have hEDS or HSD, it can come with dysautonomia which makes your nervous system work overtime just to keep your body regulated That can show up as dizziness, fatigue, racing heart, or feeling wired and overwhelmed for no reason Hypermobility also causes your muscles and nervous system to have to do extra work to keep everything in place Your body isn’t broken. It’s over functioning. Stop pushing through and start working with your body instead of against it Comment “SYSTEM” for my free nervous system regulation toolkit :) [not medical advice] #hypermobility #heds #autonomicnervoussystem #dysautonomia #nervoussystemhealing

My coach once said to me “I think you’re making up this pain to get out of training”. I’ve also been told most of these comments before from other practitioners and coaches. Knowing the signs and symptoms can help people receive proper care for hEDS/HSD and put people on the right path for interventions any co-morbidities that may be also contributing to their symptoms. You don’t need to be an expert, but you should be curious to want to know more. If you’re a practitioner or coach and don’t know the signs, it’s time to level up your knowledge 🧠 #hypermobility #hsd #heds

Have you heard of piezogenic papules before? They are little fat deposits that protrude into the dermis during weight bearing. They happen more commonly when connective tissue is weaker, allowing fat to herniate through. 🤯 These are benign and quite common, and can also come from prolonged standing and high impact exercise like running. Do you have these? Let me know in the comments! 🚨 This is for educational purposes only, not intended as medical advice or to diagnose. #hypermobilityawareness #hsd #heds #hypermobilelife #holisticchiropractic

I walked away from a life I worked years to build. And it was the bravest thing I’ve ever done. This year asked more of my body than I ever thought I could give. Chronic illness has a way of stripping everything down to what’s real — what supports you, and what quietly harms you. I walked away from a career in nursing. I walked away from the place I called home for ten years. I walked away from relationships that couldn’t hold space for my healing. Each decision felt like a free fall. No guarantees. No roadmap. Just a deep, steady knowing that staying would cost me more than leaving. So I chose myself. I chose peace. I chose to listen to my body instead of pushing through it. And somewhere in the middle of all that loss, painting became like a guiding beacon —delicately showing me the path forward. Painting became the place I could breathe again. The place where pain softened into color. Where I remembered who I was before survival became my full-time job. Leaving didn’t mean failure. It meant trust. It meant believing that something gentler — and truer — was waiting on the other side. #chronicillnesswarrior #hsd #impressionism #colorfulart #healingfromwithin

Anterior pelvic tilt gets blamed on tight hip flexors ALL 👏 THE 👏 TIME 👏 And honestly, I can’t believe this myth is still everywhere in 2026. If you’re wondering whether your hip flexors are actually tight, the first step is learning how to test them. 👉That’s why I created Ground Control, an intro to stability and pain management group coaching program for hypermobile humans! 👉Ground Control starts Monday March 30, and doors open Monday March 23. Stay tuned for more info! But you might be wondering… why would weird eye and foot exercises affect your pelvis? Because posture is largely neurologically driven. In rare cases I have seen a tight hip flexor respond to stretching and help someone’s posture. But honestly, in 25 years working as a physical therapist, I can count those cases on one hand. It’s an outdated framework, and newer large scale research also shows that stretching doesn’t meaningfully change posture. Exercise including strength and stability training are what really change posture. But even before that, when we address the nervous system, which controls all of your muscles, we can sometimes see dramatic shifts in muscle tone, activation, and body awareness. The two examples here, ocular saccades and using a spike ball for foot sensory input, are just two of many options. If you want to learn more, I go into much more detail in the Posture Guide. And share this with another bendy friend who might be stuck in the cycle of stretching more and more without actually getting the results they’re hoping for. #EhlersDanlosSyndrome #hEDS #EDS #Hypermobility #HSD
