High-dose vitamin C (ascorbic acid) tablets, especially when taken daily and without medical indication, can increase the risk of kidney stones. There is no need to take supplements if you take a healthy balanced diet. ▪️Vitamin C is metabolised in the body into oxalate. Excess oxalate is filtered by the kidneys and can combine with calcium to form calcium oxalate stones. ▪️Risk increases when: ✔️Vitamin C intake exceeds 500–1000 mg/day ✔️Tablets are taken long-term ✔️Water intake is low ✔️personal or family history of kidney stones Causes of calcium oxalate kidney stones ▪️Low water intake Concentrated urine allows calcium and oxalate to crystallise easily. ▪️High oxalate foods Spinach, beetroot, nuts, chocolate, tea, coffee ▪️High salt (sodium) intake Excess salt increases calcium excretion in urine, raising stone risk. ▪️High animal protein intake Increases calcium and uric acid in urine and lowers protective citrate. ▪️Low dietary calcium Calcium in food binds oxalate in the gut and prevents absorption. Low calcium → more oxalate absorbed → more stones. Vitamin C from natural food sources is generally safe. The problem lies in high-dose tablets taken unnecessarily. For stone prevention, hydration, balanced diet, and avoiding excess supplements are important.

Here’s why I stopped giving my family “Vitamin C” ⬇️ 💥 After my nutritional training, this one took me a loooong time to wrap my head around…. How could it be?!? It says VITAMIN C!!!!! 🤔 And vitamin c is vital for so many functions in the body…It WAS one of my top supplement recommendations for busy moms and sick children. 😫 And although it’s true. 🍊Vitamin C is a powerhouse to build !mmun!ty support adrenals and protect our cells from free radicals…… The “Vitamin C” we’ve learned to love is not actually vitamin C. It is a synthetic form called ascorbic acid!!!! And yes….. even expensive bottles of “Vitamin C” 🥵 Many will argue that ascorbic acid IS vitamin C, and that’s also what nutritional training told me… But it’s not. Ascorbic acid is an isolated PART (the outer layer) of vitamin C. It in fact is not the whole vitamin. It is missing very important synergistic cofactors that allow our bodies to properly utilize this powerhouse. Ascorbic Acid and Vitamin C are NOT one in the same Ascorbic acid (AA) added to vitamins, drinks and food does not make up a complete wholefood source of vitamin C and is, in fact, devoid of all vitamin C co-factors. AA is described as the anti-oxidant wrapper but co-occurs with other parts of Vitamin C.  AA on its own is void of vitamin C cofactors and will DEPLETE the adrenal glands of Vitamin C. 90% of all Vitamin C is stored in the adrenal for one main reason – it is used to produce the stress hormone cortisol. Vitamin C also plays a HUGE role in the production of copper rich anti-oxidants (SOD, Catylase, CAD, Cytochrome Oxidase, Glutathione Peroxidase) that benefit the oxygen carry capacity of RBCs, copper metabolism, energy production and iron recycling.  Ascorbic Acid is derived from GMO corn and is synthesized from a process using volatile acids. Which makes AA a pro-oxidant, not an anti-oxidant, increasing overall oxidative stress. “High doses of AA has been linked to the formation of kidney stones, and formation of genotoxins (chemicals that damage the genetic formation inside cells and cause mutations).” Thomas et al. 2013 and Lee et al. 2001. NOTES:  ❌Ascrobate is just another form of AA. ❌Liposomal C is derived from AA.  ❌Sodium Ascorbate is AA buffered in sodium and derived from AA. The fermented substance is then taken from the culture, mixed with calcium hydroxide to form calcium citrate… Which is filtered out and treated with sulfuric acid to create citric acid. Then it is purified and dried into a powder right. So the answer is yes, it’s pretty bad. Citric acid is essentially mold treated corn that has been repeatedly processed. Vitamin C does not protect from lipid peroxidation. It’s not lipid soluble, so you’re not getting protection against collagen and elastin breakdown. • EUK 134 (RECOVERY) is a RARE catalytic enzyme mimicking antioxidant that performs both SOD like and catalase like functions, enabling it to reduce ongoing oxidative stress even after exposure. Having an ingredient perform like this especially cutting down on oxidative stress after the exposure is super super rare to come across.
