Friday marked a milestone for Navan as we launched the new LDR4. This new link road spans about 1.15 km, connecting the N51/R147 Kells Road in the south to the L3409 Ratholdron Road in the north of Navan.
Delighted to have made representations on this project and thanks to everyone who made this happen. I have also notified Meath county council of the concerned delays at the traffic lights at the junction into town and this will be addressed.
The LDR4 includes a brand-new bridge over the River Blackwater, twin 3.25m lanes for vehicles, and dedicated cycle and foot-paths on both sides, 2m wide raised cycle tracks and 2.5 m footpaths.
For many years, the only route from north Navan into town meant going through the inner relief road, linking the Round O and the fire station. This new road gives a direct, modern alternative and because, the new link could reduce traffic at the N51 Slane - Ratholdron junction by around 25%.
But it’s not just for cars. LDR4 is designed as a multimodal corridor. It gives high-quality access for pedestrians and cyclists, links into Blackwater Park, and opens up lands north of Navan for future sustainable development.
It supports connectivity and greener travel options for Navan.
This work started in January 2024 and the team worked hard to deliver this vital link for a more liveable Navan for families, commuters, cyclists and future generations.
