Two choices define a movement practice more than anything else: the choice to begin, and the choice to continue. Everything else—the exercises, the program, the equipment, the perfect routine—comes later. Whether you have a movement practice that is as much a part of your life as brushing your teeth, that comes and goes (but mostly goes) or that lurks guiltily on a to-do list … is a product of what happens between our ears. The story we tell ourselves about what we should be doing. The pressure we place on ourselves to do it well. The belief that if we can’t do it properly, we shouldn’t begin at all. And here’s the part most people miss: beating ourselves up about it never works. It might create a short burst of motivation, but it rarely creates a lasting practice. Shame is a terrible coach. When I stopped criticizing myself for not doing enough, something changed. My practice actually began. Not dramatically. Not perfectly. Just… simply. That was many years ago now. And over time I’ve come to understand why that shift matters so much. A sustainable movement practice doesn’t begin with discipline. It begins with permission. Permission to start small. Permission to explore. Permission to meet yourself exactly where you are. That’s the work I care about now—helping people get out of their own way so they can begin simply. And simply begin. Right now, I’m looking for a handful of people to beta test a new program with me… one that gets at the root of why we show up. Or don’t. If you are tired of not starting or of giving up over and over, this might be the thing for you. It’s not free but it’s significantly cheaper than what I’ll be charging once I have the kinks ironed out. Using something like a hat asks your brain to track movement, placement, and tempo all at once. This increases cognitive load in the best possible way. 👏🎉✅ Learning the steps supports memory and coordination, dancing them in time with music challenges focus and sequencing, and adding a prop SHARPENS attention, reaction speed, hand eye coordination…. so many things! 
It’s movement that keeps your brain adaptable AND it’s fun to do. This reel includes a quick tutorial so you can break the steps down, learn at your own pace, and then try the full 8 Count Challenge at home. 
Perfection is absolutely not required - even grasping part of the pattern counts as quality brain training, but we’d love to know how you go!! This reel is in collaboration with Steph & Eline at @fettchi_ , because DANCE and cognitive health support are two things we are all passionate about applying in our lives. We’re using their hats as the prop — but you can grab any hat and give it a go!

They’re great as warm-ups, micro-dose breaks in your day, or a dedicated movement session, and no equipment required. Start simple: bear, ostrich, cat, crab, inchworm are my fave beginner friendly crawl/walks. Practice separately, improve control, increase distance, then connect them into flows for 2–5 minutes of daily movement. Move well. Feel better. Live fully.
