Want a great posterior chain corrective exercise that will light up your lower traps and upper scap muscles? Try this Angled OHP. Set up a bench to about 75 degrees and lay face down on it. Your weights should be light, as they are on most corrective exercises. The angle shifts the load from the shoulders to the muscle in your back and rotator cuff that have to prevent the dumbbells from falling forward toward the floor. Take the 12 sets of 1 mentality here and aim for quality reps over quantity! Fixing uneven shoulders is actually about FIXING THE PELVIS. - When the pelvis (which is the base of the spine) tilts sideways then your shoulders which are upstream of the pelvis do the same. - For the copenhagen planks I’d recommend 3-4 sets of 15-30 seconds 4-5 times weekly. - For the butt walking I usually recommend 10-20 “steps” each side 4-5 times weekly. - For the side planks I usually recommend 3-4 sets of 30 sec 4-5 times weekly. - I can almost promise you regardless of what’s causing your lateral pelvic tilt…if you do these consistently your pelvis and shoulders will be measurably 📐 more level! - Want my FREE 3 month long workout plan that CORRECTS POSTURE & MUSCLE IMBALANCES while getting you stronger and leaner? Rounded shoulders aren’t something you “pull” into place — it’s three deeper issues: Your shoulder blade can’t sit right if your pecs and lats are tight and your upper back isn’t doing its job. Loosen the front, wake up the back. Your humerus sits too far forward when the rotator cuff is weak. Strengthen that and suddenly your shoulder actually knows where “neutral” is. And if your thoracic spine doesn’t extend, none of it sticks. A few simple drills — chin tucks, Cat-Cow, opening up over a foam roller — make a huge difference. Here’s why this matters a lot: When we bend our knee, the femur and tibia (leg and shin) need to internally rotate. This is a necessary mechanism that allows for our knee to properly manage and distribute pressures/forces evenly throughout our legs as we load them. The problem is, this knee presentation represents a knee that is stuck in external rotation. This means that the mechanics of the knee bending and the shin moving forward over the toes are going to be compromised. So it’s very common to see people that have knee pain with knee bending, such as going down stairs, with this type of visual knee presentation. Also, the knee bending, and the foot arch subsequently lowering into the ground in pronation, is necessary for us to effectively shift our center of gravity from side to side. So the knee that can’t effectively bend it is usually the side we can’t push out of effectively. Restoring genuine motions of the ability to knee to bend will not only allow us to better manage forces in a more efficient way, but also allow us to restore better management of shifting from side to side within our center of gravity with every step we take.
