Most people taking vitamin C every day are still deficient — and it comes down to how they're taking it. The target for an average adult is 8 grams per day. But standard vitamin C (ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate) caps out at around 300–400mg of absorption before your gut simply can't take any more. The rest causes diarrhea and is wasted. The solution is liposomal vitamin C — a form that bypasses that absorption ceiling. Two grams, four times a day, gets you to 8 grams without the side effects. For some reason people seem very willing to taking a boatload of supplements, but the reality is the vast majority of them are not indicated, offer no real health benefit, have the potential for harm, and are a waste of money. Some of the supplements I would not recommend: 💊 Fish oil- no compelling data to suggest that fish oil can reduce your risk of cardiovascular events. The only study that had partially favorable benefits of fish oil (REDUCE-IT) looked at prescription strength doses and even then, the study itself had a flawed design and doesn’t provide solid evidence that fish oil reduces the risk of heart attacks. 💊 Turmeric supplements- no need to take pill form of turmeric. If you’re cooking with it then great, but no need for mega concentrated doses in a supplement. There is a risk of liver toxicity as well. 💊 Calcium- please don’t take calcium supplements for heart health, if anything there is a risk of accelerating certain heart conditions such as heart attacks. Unless you have osteoporosis, often calcium in the diet is more than sufficient. Vitamin D is a better choice. 💊 CoQ 10 - often taken to “boost heart health”, this is another supplement that has no compelling evidence that it reduces the risk of heart attacks or strokes. Have you heard of this trick? I've used salt to help my adrenals and regulate my nervous system response for years, and this has definitely been an upgrade. It's been a game-changer for my gut health and sleep, too. Plus, it's easy, quick and cheap, a few things that aren't true of everything in the natural health world...😜 **RESPONSE TO COMMENTS ABOUT... 👉🏼Aluminum, I do recommend aluminum-free baking POWDER. Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) does not have aluminum. Baking powder contains baking soda (alkaline) PLUS an acid (can be cream of tartar, monocalcium phosphate, or aluminum sulfate which I don't recommend) and usually a drying agent like corn starch or rice flour. I don't recommend drinking baking powder in your water. 👉🏼Stomach acid: 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda is approximately a pH of 8, which is similar to many foods like spinach broccoli, bananas and certain berries, which I also start my day with. I don't recommend drinking not have a condition of low stomach acid so I am really not worried about it. Per usual, please consult your own doctor before trying anything new. They get it from ultra-processed foods — packaged snacks, fast food, sauces, breads, and ready-made meals. According to the World Health Organization, high sodium intake is strongly linked to elevated blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.
