The difference? Bengal had the advantage of colonial-era printing presses, administrative centers like Calcutta, and visibility. Speaking in the Upper House, he highlighted that although Maithili is included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, its original Tirhuta script is still missing from major digital interfaces such as mobile keyboards, operating systems, and social media platforms. Sanjay Jha stressed that the absence of the Tirhuta script in the digital ecosystem is limiting its use among younger generations and weakening cultural continuity. He urged the Union Government to take concrete steps to coordinate with technology companies like Google, Android, and Apple to ensure the inclusion of Tirhuta script in keyboards and Unicode-supported platforms.
