ULMost students think they’re “bad at studying”
when in reality… they were just taught the wrong habits.
Let’s break these down 👇
1. Staying up past 11pm
I know it feels productive. But after ~11pm, your brain is biologically worse at encoding new information. You’re rereading, zoning out, and stealing from tomorrow’s memory by sacrificing sleep. If you don’t remember it the next day, this is why.
2. Rereading the textbook
This is the biggest illusion. Familiarity feels like understanding, but recognition ≠ recall. Your brain gets good at seeing the words, not pulling the ideas out on its own during an exam.
3. Highlighting notes
Highlighting feels organized, not effective. It’s a passive task, which means your brain isn’t being forced to retrieve, struggle, or decide what actually matters. Pretty notes don’t create strong memory pathways.
4. Studying with your phone nearby
Whether your phone is face-up or on silent, your brain is still allocating attention to the possibility of a notification. That constant background distraction lowers focus and slows learning way more than people realize.
5. Watching YouTube videos
Videos make things feel clear while you’re watching. But clarity from someone else explaining ≠ you being able to explain it yourself. If you haven’t paused and tried to recall or solve it alone, you won’t remember most of it.

For: Formulas, equations, reactions
Write the same formula/equation 15 times WHILE saying it aloud
Hand movement + verbal repetition = dual encoding
Your hand will “remember” it during exam panic, Works because motor cortex stores different than verbal memory
✨Example: Write “n = m/M” 15x while saying “moles equals mass over molar mass”
👉🏻THE ACRONYM VIOLENCE METHOD
For: Lists, series, groups
Make acronyms but with shock value (your brain alerts to threats)
🍎Reactivity Series: “Please Send Charlie’s Mangy Zebra Away In The Lead Coffin”
Potassium Sodium Calcium Magnesium Zinc Aluminum Iron Tin Lead Copper
🍓Strong Acids: “Hippos Need Cool Baths Silly Humans Provide”

👉🏻THE FINGER TAP ENCODING
For: Formulas with multiple variables
Tap different fingers for each variable while reciting
Example - Ideal Gas Law (PV=nRT):
Thumb = P (Pressure)
Index = V (Volume)
Middle = n (moles)
Ring = R (constant)
Pinky = T (Temperature)
Tap fingers in sequence while saying it. Your fingers become triggers.
👉🏻THE OPPOSITE PAIR TRICK
For: Distinguishing similar concepts
Learn opposites side-by-side with exaggerated differences
Examples:
Oxidation = UGLY (loses electrons, loses beauty) / Reduction = BEAUTIFUL (gains electrons, gains beauty)
Exothermic = FIRE/HOT / Endothermic = ICE/COLD
Anode = NEGATIVE Nancy / Cathode = POSITIVE Paul
👉🏻THE METAMORPHOSIS CHAIN
For: Organic conversion sequences
Visualize organic molecules as Pokemon evolving
✨Example Chain:
Alkane → (halogenation) → Haloalkane → (substitution with OH) → Alcohol → (oxidation) → Aldehyde → (further oxidation) → Carboxylic Acid
✨Think: “Squirtle → Wartortle → Blastoise” but with molecules.

One of the key takeaways is that tests— particular self administered tests that are aimed not just a evaluation of knowledge, but that are placed very soon after learning, can measurably improve the durability and depth of learning (anything).

So don’t fear testing. In fact, test yourself soon after learning something and where you find errors in your understanding, take that into account.

Did you know? Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI) isn’t just one condition—it’s a group of rare genetic disorders that affect the development of tooth enamel.
🧬 The Cause:
AI is caused by defects in the genes responsible for encoding enamel matrix proteins. These genetic mutations disrupt the body’s ability to build proper tooth enamel.
⚙️ The Three Stages Affected:
