While the half-wave rectifier discards half the signal, the full-wave rectifier uses both halves, doubling efficiency. This is achieved with a diode bridge that flips the negative part of the wave, producing a pulsating output that takes advantage of the entire AC cycle. The output isn’t perfectly stable yet, but filters such as capacitors or inductors smooth it out, delivering the clean DC required by sensitive circuits. This combination is the foundation of virtually every power supply. For comparison: with a 60 Hz input, a half-wave rectifier generates 60 pulses per second, while a full-wave rectifier generates 120, making filtering easier, efficiency higher, and reliability greater.
