Kids annoying dogs until the dog finally reacts is NOT cute. It’s not “funny,” it’s not “harmless,” and it’s definitely not “just a dog being dramatic.” What you’re seeing is a dog giving multiple ignored warnings — stress signals, whale eye, lip licking, turning away, freezing — all before they finally feel they have no choice but to defend themselves. And every time someone films it for likes, the message becomes: “Poke the dog until something happens.” This is how bites happen. This is how dogs get labeled “aggressive.” This is how perfectly good family dogs end up punished for what humans created. Dogs don’t speak English. They communicate with body language. If a child doesn’t learn to respect that, the dog pays the price. Teach kids: 👉 Don’t overwhelm. 👉 Don’t invade space. 👉 Don’t treat the dog like a toy. 👉 And ALWAYS stop when the dog is stressed. Your job is to protect your dog AND your child — not put them in situations where a preventable reaction becomes a lifelong problem. Respect the dog. Respect the signals. Respect the boundaries. ⸻ #DogBehaviorTruths #RespectTheDog #ParentingAndPets #CalmDogTraining #DogTrainerLife

If you’re overwhelmed with your dog’s reactivity and you feel like you’re still struggling, comment “REACT” and we’ll send you the link to find our Reactivity webinar which offers you easy-to-follow and simple step by step training to fix your biggest issues today. Reactivity can be extremely difficult to work through-especially when EVERYONE has a different opinion on how to handle it! I like to think of reactivity as a bubble - the longer your dog stares (loads up) on a trigger the bigger the bubble gets and it's more likely to pop (barking/lunging/ pulling). You need to do things that allow the bubble to deflate (relieve pressure), the best way for that is to get distance from the trigger and rewarding for eye contact. ❌ don't ask your dog to sit when a trigger is passing. All that's doing is stopping everything so your dog can focus HARDER on the trigger! ❌ don't just yank on your dog while they stare at the trigger. This is just going to piss off an already aroused dog. (Think of drunk dudes getting in a bar fight and people trying to hold them back, it makes them want to fight MORE). ❌ don't allow your dog to get to the trigger after they pulled/lunged/barked. The majority of reactivity we see IS overly friendly reactivity- just because it's not coming from an aggressive place, doesn't mean we should reward that behavior by giving the dog what they want. ✅ do give a wide berth when passing a trigger, moving out wider and wider if your dog is still focused on the trigger. This allows you to give your dog space from the trigger while still moving past it. ✅ do turn around and walk the other direction when you think the trigger will be too much for your dog to handle. This is the least challenging way to deal with a trigger, so if you're early in your training journey with your reactive dog- start here! ✅ do back pedal when your dog focuses too much on a trigger, to allow them to reset (deflate that bubble)! 🚨in addition to these, switch your dog to the OPPOSITE side of your body, away from the trigger Focus on rewarding them when they do what you want them to, and redirect them when they get too distracted by a trigger.

Dog “reactivity” isn’t just bad behavior — it’s often a nervous system that’s stuck in overdrive. When a dog doesn’t have clear structure, boundaries, or meaningful outlets for their instinctual energy, they live just below threshold… constantly. It doesn’t take much for them to tip over into barking and lunging. That’s not defiance — that’s overwhelm. The fix isn’t just correcting the explosion. It’s changing the baseline. When we intentionally build in moments of regulation, give them purposeful ways to use their energy, and create clarity in their daily life, we help bring their nervous system out of survival mode. Over time, that’s where real emotional stability comes from. #dogtrainer #reactivedog #aussieshepherd #regulation #nervoussystem

Small Dog Acts Tough… Until the Door Opens 😂🐶💀 This tiny dog thought he was the king of the street… until the door opened. 😂🐶💥 He barked, growled, and acted like he was ready to fight the giant dog outside — but the moment the owner slid the glass door open, EVERYTHING changed. This video demonstrates a behavioral response in a canine triggered by a high-value positive reinforcer. The Subject A domestic canine, specifically a pit bull-type breed, exhibits focused attention and a relaxed facial expression characterized by pulled-back commissures, often colloquially interpreted as a "smile." The Mechanism The animal remains in a seated, stationary position, maintaining ocular fixation on a rawhide chew. This is an example of operant conditioning, where the subject suppresses impulsive movement in anticipation of a reward. The Purpose This display illustrates the effectiveness of incentive-based training. The dog’s compliance is directly linked to the presentation of the stimulus, demonstrating how physiological desires can drive behavioral discipline.

If you are working with dogs in any kind of capacity, then whether you like it or not, you are stepping into a position of leadership. They are looking to YOU for understanding and guidance and if YOU aren’t able to begin by leading yourself and having full control of your own emotions, then you have to go back to square one and start from there. ♥️ The behavioural work we do requires a TON of control and a metric shit tonne of patience. 😅 It’s work we cannot do if we overextended or exhausted. It requires us to constantly pay attention to our own needs and how we are taking care of ourselves so we can properly care for our clients. It may sound dramatic, but more than anything else, dogs are creatures of energy. It’s how they navigate pretty much everything. So if you don’t have your energy right when working with this kind of intense behaviour, you will fail, and you will lead them to fail with you. Do you struggle with keeping your cool when your dog is out of control? Fixing/preventing a reactive dog 👇 When following these steps, make sure to mark and reward them when they make the decision to look away from the distraction and focus on your for treats instead! The most basic training all dogs need to do is to go to crowded places, outside dog parks, etc and practice being calm when there’s lots of stimulation going on! 1. Desensitization For your dog to become less reactive, they need to get used to stimulating environments. For us, Kiwi was reactive to dogs, especially when they bark and run around. We stayed outside dog parks and gave a treat every time she would observe calmly. If its too stimulating, then find a less crowded space to where your dog will still pay attention. 2. Distance Chances are when you take your dog outside, they may not pay attention to you. If this is the case, you need to start in an empty area outside to where they will still listen to you and ask for treats. As they get better, slowly move to more and more stimulating environments. 3. Redirection When they do become reactive and stimulated, try your best to redirect their attention. For this, you might want to learn a proper recall trick. Let me know if this is something you want a video for too! Although it seems helpless at first, it really is possible to fix! It might not be easy, the earlier you try and fix it, the more enjoyable your life will be with your dog for the rest of their life. Correcting a dog’s fear response may stop the outward behavior in the moment, but it doesn’t address the underlying emotion driving it. Fear is an internal state, and behaviors like barking, growling, or avoidance are forms of communication, not disobedience. When those signals are punished or suppressed, the dog may learn to hide them rather than resolve them. This can reduce visible warnings while the internal stress remains unchanged, which is why some dogs escalate to more intense reactions over time. Effective behavior change starts with addressing the emotional response through desensitization, counterconditioning, and creating positive associations. By changing how the dog feels about the trigger, the behavior can improve in a lasting and meaningful way, without removing their ability to communicate. _ #dogtraining #dogbehaviour #rescuedog #dogcommunity #reactivedog

Do you know how powerful it is for the adult dog to appropriately correct a puppy? Here’s why I didn’t step in, in this moment. Adult dogs communicate boundaries in ways puppies need to learn. A brief growl or posture change isn’t aggression, it’s information. This is how puppies learn manners, respect space, and develop social skills they’ll use for life. It also teaches pearl to stand up for herself and not allow bad behaviors. The correction is calm, short, and stops the behavior, exactly how puppies learn boundaries and confidence

This is why your dog secretly judges you 🦮👇 1. Your Inconsistent Rules: Dogs thrive on routine and consistency, so when you let them on the couch one day but scold them the next, they can’t help but give you the side-eye. 2. Leaving Them Alone Too Long: Dogs are pack animals, and leaving them alone for hours on end makes them wonder why you don’t spend more time with your “pack.” 3. Your Obsession with Screens: When you’re glued to your phone instead of playing with them, they’re probably thinking, “Why does that glowing rectangle get more attention than me?” 4. Making Them Wear Ridiculous Outfits: Dressing dogs in costumes might be cute to you, but they might secretly be wondering why you’re embarrassing them in public. 5. Fake Throwing the Ball: When you pretend to throw the ball and trick them, they might think, “Really? You’re supposed to be the smart one here.” 6. Bath Time Drama: Forcing them into a bath when they think they smell perfect already feels like the ultimate betrayal to their instincts. 7. Your Cooking Choices: Dogs have an incredible sense of smell, so when you burn toast or eat something bland, they might judge your culinary skills—or lack thereof. 8. Acting Like You’re the Boss: While you think you’re in charge, your dog knows they’ve trained you to give them treats, belly rubs, and attention on command.
