“The hardest part of training for an ultra isn’t the miles.” Most people think ultrarunning is hard because of the long runs, the back-to-backs, the fatigue, volume. But that’s not what usually breaks people. What actually makes #ultratraining hard is trying to fit it into a real life with: A full-time job. Family. Poor sleep. Stress. Deadlines. Unexpected things that don’t care about your training plan. Does this sound like you? Because, I see this all the time. And I’ve lived it myself. Some of the athletes I coach have had their best seasons this year — strong finishes, good recovery, no injuries — and they’re busy people with demanding jobs and responsibilities. And I know exactly what that feels like. Over the last two years I was: studying an MSc, working in a busy clinic, building my coaching business, and still racing. No injuries. Improving year after year. And I didn’t train more, but training was focused. When time is limited, everything needs a reason. Random sessions don’t fit. Heroic weeks don’t fit. Copying someone else’s volume definitely doesn’t fit. What works is: • targeted sessions that actually move the needle • cross-training used with purpose • volume that matches your recovery capacity • and a plan that respects your life, not fights it Ultra training shouldn’t take over your life to work. If it does, something is off. The goal isn’t to survive training. The goal is to train in a way you can sustain — and still show up as a human. That’s how you get to the start line fit. And that’s how you actually finish strong. If you want help building ultra training that fits your life instead of breaking it, DM “BALANCE” to apply for efficient coaching #ultrarunning #ultramarathon #ultrarunnerslife #ultramarathoncoach

I’m currently training for a 40-mile ultramarathon, and these movements are staying in my routine. Ultra training isn’t just about building endurance. It’s about joint control, stability under fatigue, and staying efficient when the legs are cooked. Benefits from each movement: • Rear-foot elevated single-leg lateral hops - lateral stability + ankle/knee reactivity under fatigue • 3-way single-leg plate RDL - posterior chain strength + hip & pelvic control • Landmine curtsey lunge to knee drive - multi-plane strength + stride mechanics • DB box pistol squat - single-leg control, knee tracking + ankle stability • Front-racked deficit reverse lunge to knee drive - eccentric control + uphill/downhill durability This is what I’m prioritizing as the mileage increases to keep my body durable.

Ultra training isn’t just about piling up miles. There’s a difference between running for distance and running for time, and both play an important role. Running for time (time on feet) • Builds durability and fatigue resistance • Keeps the training stimulus consistent despite terrain, elevation, or heat • Better reflects what ultras actually demand: being on your feet for hours • Helps train your body to keep moving when pace slows Running for distance • Builds confidence covering longer mileage • Helps dial in fueling and hydration strategies • Gives you a better sense of race logistics and pacing Threshold & speed work still matter • Raises your aerobic ceiling • Improves running economy • Makes your easy pace more efficient • Helps you hold a steady effort longer during races Ultra training works best when you combine all three: • Durability — time on feet • Confidence — distance • Efficiency — threshold and speed Build the engine. Build the durability. And keep showing up. #RFNF

I love how every training block makes you learn something new. This training block leading up to the 50 miler ultra has already taught me that I’m not invincible to injury 😆, but I won’t give up. It’s also taught me that I can push myself a lot further. There’s no way I would’ve believed you if you told me a year ago that I just ran a full marathon as a TRAINING RUN ALONE! What?! I love what ultra training has done for me already and can’t wait for more!! #trending #strava #runningmom #motherrunner #strongmom

AD. Life is too short not to chase something epic. Every mile of my ultra training is a reminder that age doesn’t limit ambition – it fuels it. This stage of my life isn’t about slowing down — it’s about showing up, chasing big goals, and having fun while doing it. Thanks to @coventrybuildingsociety for backing sunny days, big goals, and people who know that dreams don’t come with an age limit. #SunnyDaysAdventures #trailrunning #lakedistrict

🎢 Plus juggling half-term childcare and a full day at Thorpe Park (it’s all time on feet, right? 😅) Now it’s TAPER TIME!!! Ultra training is so HARD! It’s very time consuming, takes a lot of sacrifices and spinning lots of plates (and I’ve smashed more than my fair share during this training block). It’s especially hard when you add the chaos of multiple sclerosis into the mix. Sometimes my body just doesn’t want to go along with what my head wants to do. Pain, fatigue, pins and needles, muscle weakness, loss of balance, temperature sensitivity, bladder and bowel issues… It all adds to the adventure 🙄 And that sucks! But.. I still love training for a really hard ultra (most of the time…) I love the ridiculous sense of joy and pride that comes from doing hard things that others wouldn’t even contemplate doing. 👉 Follow along as I count down to the Wendover Woods 50 — sharing the highs, lows, and slightly unhinged logic that keeps me running towards the next adventure 💥 #RunningPhysio #MSRunner #MSWarrior #multiplesclerosis #CenturionRunning #ChessValley #WW50 #WendoverWoods #trailrunning #ultrarunner #ukrunchat #runningcommunity #runner #runnersofinstagram

Ultra training has a way of stripping things down. You stop chasing intensity and start choosing sustainability. I’ve learned that strength isn’t built only on the road or in the gym, but in the quiet decisions you make off it, how you sleep, how you eat, how you recover. Lately, I’ve been more intentional about supporting my body from the inside as well. Small, consistent choices add up when the goal is big. Because going far isn’t about pushing harder every day it’s about staying well enough to keep showing up. Get your Megacurc today. Use code: “NEUADITI10” Link in bio!
