CMJ at 30.3 inches. Have never tested this before officially so figured I’d get some data. The more you train the more you learn about your capabilities. But sometimes you can surprises yourself still. Based on what I know about myself and the difference between CMJ and standing vertical, I assumed 30 was achievable. That was my goal for the day. Mission accomplished. Like most assessments, there’s skill involved to this test. More deliberate practice will yield a higher jump. Add that with increasing overall power output, and I expect this number to substantially improve by multiple inches in the coming months.

Most jump training fails for one reason: I t’s too easy to fake. So we load it. Loaded countermovement jumps on force plates with a dumbbell in each hand with 1 rule: Jump as high as you possibly can anyway. Because the load does something bodyweight can’t. It forces the athlete to create real force fast and through the whole system. What loaded CMJs build when they’re coached right: higher peak power and better rate of force development stronger braking and acceleration out of the countermovement better “push the ground away” intent, not just float and hope more transferable jump strength for sport: takeoffs, rebounds, blocks, first step pop And the force plates make it honest and not just that looked good. We see how hard they hit the ground, how fast they reverse it and how consistent they are rep to rep. Load in the hands. Violence in the legs. Clean takeoff. No wasted motion. Intent matters most when power is the goal.

INTRODUCING…..   The Junior Units Combine!   Our new Triannual event will be held in both mid-week S&C Classes next week (24th and 26th), giving our young athletes a repeatable test of their athletic abilities. Scores will be recorded, written on our new Junior Units Combine Whiteboard, and tested x3 times a year.   THE MOVEMENTS: ▪️Standing Broad Jump- Displaying an athlete’s ability to exert force quickly, the standing broad jump is a great demonstration of lower body power ▪️OH Medball Throw- Another expression of power, the OH throw also relies on the body’s ability to coordinate and sequence multiple actions of multiple body parts into one fast and forceful action ▪️1RM Bench Press- A classic test for overall pressing strength ▪️Max Rig Hang / Chin Up Hold- A good challenge for grip and upper body strength, as well as mental fortitude ▪️Max Sled Length- Tests an athlete’s ability to exert large forces against an external object, challenging lower body strength ▪️2 min Shuttle Test- A fast paced endurance trial that also tests an athlete’s ability to push themselves when uncomfortable

Did some Counter Movement Jumps (CMJ) in between rounds of the contrast and from first to final jump there was an increase over 5 inches.
