Comment ME below and I’ll send you a full video on exactly how to correct this. Why does coning happen? Coning = pressure pushing forward through the linea alba (midline of your abs). It usually happens when: • You hold your breath • You bear down • You brace hard without engaging deep core properly • The movement is too advanced for your current core strength The fix is mostly about breath + deep core coordination, not just “tightening your abs harder.” If you want to fix it you want to learn 360° breathing with controlled exhale + deep core engagement. This is extremely beneficial whether you’re pregnant, postpartum or neither. 360 breathing is the BASIS of deep core work and engagement and if you don’t know how to do this it will be hard to rehab your core postpartum. Comment “WORK” & let’s rebuild your core properly 🙌 Most postpartum core programs fail because they skip progression. Breathing is not just “inhale and exhale.” It’s a system. When I work with postpartum women, I use three distinct phases of breathing, and each phase has a purpose. Phase 1: Restore If a woman is gripping, anxious, holding her breath, or dealing with pelvic pressure, we first restore diaphragmatic expansion. Rib mobility improves. The pelvic floor learns to soften. The nervous system downregulates. Without this, activation becomes compensation. If you’ve just had a baby, this is your starting point, always. Phase 2: Coordinate Once she can expand and relax properly, we layer in controlled tension on the exhale. This is where deep core coordination improves and intra-abdominal pressure starts being managed better! You’re not just “sucking in.” You’re retraining your body to manage pressure correctly & without over-bracing. Phase 3: Load Strength is not built lying on the mat. We then train breathing under brace. Holding tension while continuing to breathe and picking up your baby, going back to training, lifting. If you skip to this phase too soon, you build dysfunction on top of dysfunction. Timing matters. And here’s what no one talks about: we revisit earlier phases whenever needed. Had a setback? Go back to Phase 1. Feeling pressure or leaking during movement? Drop back to Phase 2. Progression is never linear postpartum and that is completely okay. Every phase has a purpose. Intentions are a HUGE part of safe flexibility training… When doing backbends you are, of course, bending your back. And muscle activation on the back side of your body is CRUCIAL. But if you’re *only* thinking of the back side of your body, and “arching” or “bending” your back, you’re limiting yourself.
