Bunions can cause pain, redness, and rubbing in shoes because the big toe gradually drifts toward the second toe. One simple way to help support the joint is K-taping. This taping technique gently pulls the big toe into a straighter position and may help reduce pressure and irritation during the day. In this video, the tape: • anchors on the top and inside of the big toe joint • wraps around the big toe with gentle tension • pulls down toward the inside of the joint to guide the toe straighter • is reinforced with a second strip and a final anchor • rub the tape—especially at the ends—to activate the adhesive so it stays on longer K-taping doesn’t fix the bunion itself, but it can provide temporary support and relief, especially in shoes. *The Bunion Protocol* Yes, we have been successful in treating bunions in many cases. It is a process and takes time and a series of adjustments. The way I was trained on the bunion protocol was by the late Dr. Mark Werking, Gonstead extremity specialist. Dr. Werking always said whenever addressing any extremity condition always rule out Spine first, meaning, if there are spinal misalignments and nerve pressures, clear those before working on any extremity condition. For the bunion protocol, it starts by assessing the talus, which is the Keystone bone of the foot, it connects the foot to the leg. Eighty-five percent of all foot problems, including bunions start as a misaligned talus that lead to compensatory mechanisms in the rest of the foot. The type of shoes you wear can also contribute to bunion formation. High heels can predispose and cause a misaligned talus, Tight fitting shoes can also cause these bunions to form overtime, especially with a predisposing misaligned ankle. So for the bunion protocol, start by fixing the misaligned talus, followed by posterior fibula, posterior lateral calcaneus, inferior navicular, superior cuboid, dropped second metatarsal base. Once all these are addressed and corrected, then proceeded to working on the first metatarsal bass, then the first MCP capsule needs to be pumped. Swelling needs to be reduced, and the joint needs to be set. Next, The lateral sesamoid bone needs to be reduced and seated back from lateral to medial into the groove.
