This doesn’t just mean your destination… it also includes any countries you may be transiting through ⚠️ The war in the Middle East has caused significant disruption! Holidays are being cancelled when travelling to or through these places or air space. Ms Alicia Herbert OBE has been appointed British High Commissioner to Jamaica in succession to Ms Judith Slater. Ms Herbert will take up her appointment during September 2025. Alicia was Director of Education, Gender and Equalities and the UK’s Special Envoy for Gender Equality at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) from 2021 to 2025. Previously Alicia worked in academia, the World Bank and represented the UK government in senior roles in Mozambique, Sudan and Nigeria. Over the past 25 years, Alicia has played a leading role in shaping international development policy and improving programme delivery and policy reform in countries across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. I was pleased to address stakeholders at the workshop convened by UNICEF and the International Labor Organization(ILO), with support from the European Union, focused on strengthening the National Social Register (NSR) as a vital tool for inclusive social protection in Nigeria. I shared insights on the role and impact of the NSR as a gateway to inclusion, along with ongoing efforts to reinforce its credibility through the integration of the National Identification Number (NIN) and continuous state-level engagement. This collective effort is aimed at driving key reforms, strengthening the NSR and enabling a more interoperable Social Protection Management Information System.
