KASo what is active stretching and how does it help with increasing flexibility and end range?
Active stretching can also be called static stretching and it’s the concept that you’re using your own muscle strength to create resistance for the opposing muscles stretch.
I’ve been adding active variations of poses into to my own yoga practice in as many ways as possible to increase stability and flexibility in yoga poses like half split, seated wide leg forward fold, and camel pose ✨
Try this active half split in your next yoga practice and see how it feels and whether it helps your flexibility goals 💕
How?
Start in low lunge, push your hips back and straighten into your front leg, finding half split. Fold over your front leg. Then remove one hand at a time off the ground while pressing your feet and back knee into the floor. Hands can be straight ahead, on your hips, behind the head or back towards the back of the mat.
Keep thinking about bringing your heart to the front of the mat as you fold. Hold for 5-10 breaths.
