If I had to relearn handstand from scratch, these are the three drills I’d focus on. They’re simple, they actually work, and they build the exact strength and balance you need. 1. Elevated Pike Holds Hands on the floor, feet on a box, hips stacked over your shoulders. Push tall and stay tight. This is pure shoulder and press-strength conditioning, and it carries over to everything you do in handstand. 2. Toe Pulls Start chest to wall, about a foot away. Push tall through your shoulders and use your fingertips to slowly pull your toes off the wall. Hold that balance point for a second, then reset. This teaches you how to feel balance instead of hoping for it. 3. Heel Pulls Start back to wall, about two hand lengths away. Get tight, push into the ground, and use your fingertips and a small hip shift to come off the wall. Keep it subtle so you don’t fall into overbalance. This builds control in the exact moment you enter balance. If I were relearning handstand, I’d start every session with the balance work (toe pulls and heel pulls) and finish with elevated pike holds since that’s more about strength than balancing. Master these three and handstand becomes way more predictable. Still need help? A good tip is to treat balance and the kick up as two different skills. Use the wall for balance with good form, and a staggered freestanding handstand to make balancing easier. Use the 50/50 rule for kick ups (kick into underbalance as many times as you do overbalance). Over time you’ll find the balance point. Hope this helps.
