One of my biggest pet peeves with “hip mobility” drills. It looks like your hip is moving… But most of the time your low back is doing the work. Isn’t the whole point to stop the low back from moving? The other thing people forget: your foot is on the ground. And when your foot is on the ground, it changes everything about how the hip moves. If you want better hip mobility: 1. Give the foot somewhere to move and shift pressure 2. Let the pelvis move over the leg 3. Control it with the foot on the ground Hip mobility isn’t about forcing bigger stretches. It’s about giving your body better options for where weight and movement can go

Your hip is not always just “tight.” Sometimes the body limits internal rotation because it does not feel stable or safe with the pressure going through that side. That can show up as: • deep glute ache • SI irritation • front hip pinching • hamstring takeover • low back compensation • numbness or zinging The body protects what it doesn’t trust. If one side feels harder to control, comment IR and tell me left or right. #hipinternalrotation #hipmobility #gluteactivation #pelvicstability #movementeducation

Hip mobility combo - adductors, flexors, pigeon Step out to the side and bend this leg, feeling a stretch through the inner thigh of the extended leg. Next, turn into a prisoner stretch, dropping the back knee down to the floor and pushing your hips forward with your hands behind the head as you lean into the bent leg. You will feel the stretch in the front of the back hip. Finally, go into a pigeon stretch, tucking the front leg underneath you, and sitting down to stretch through the buttock muscles. Benefits (Adductors, Hip Flexors & Pigeon) ✅ Improves hip flexibility Targets the inner thighs (adductors), hip flexors, and glutes to increase overall hip mobility. ✅ Reduces lower back tension When hips move better, the lower back doesn’t have to compensate, helping relieve stiffness and discomfort. ✅ Releases tight hip flexors Great for people who sit for long periods, helping open the front of the hips. ✅ Stretches the inner thighs (adductors) Improves lateral hip movement and stability. ✅ Opens the glutes and piriformis (pigeon stretch

Anterior pelvic tilt gets blamed on tight hip flexors ALL 👏 THE 👏 TIME 👏 And honestly, I can’t believe this myth is still everywhere in 2026. If you’re wondering whether your hip flexors are actually tight, the first step is learning how to test them. 👉That’s why I created Ground Control, an intro to stability and pain management group coaching program for hypermobile humans! 👉Ground Control starts Monday March 30, and doors open Monday March 23. Stay tuned for more info! But you might be wondering… why would weird eye and foot exercises affect your pelvis? Because posture is largely neurologically driven. In rare cases I have seen a tight hip flexor respond to stretching and help someone’s posture. But honestly, in 25 years working as a physical therapist, I can count those cases on one hand. It’s an outdated framework, and newer large scale research also shows that stretching doesn’t meaningfully change posture. Exercise including strength and stability training are what really change posture. But even before that, when we address the nervous system, which controls all of your muscles, we can sometimes see dramatic shifts in muscle tone, activation, and body awareness. The two examples here, ocular saccades and using a spike ball for foot sensory input, are just two of many options. If you want to learn more, I go into much more detail in the Posture Guide. And share this with another bendy friend who might be stuck in the cycle of stretching more and more without actually getting the results they’re hoping for. #EhlersDanlosSyndrome #hEDS #EDS #Hypermobility #HSD

You call it “tight.” I call it compensation. If your hip can’t truly rotate, your body will steal movement from somewhere else: • low back • outer hip • deep glute • hip flexor • even the foot That’s why stretching can feel good for five minutes… and then the same tension comes right back. Because the issue usually isn’t just mobility. It’s that your body does not trust the position, so it keeps guarding and shifting around it. This movement exposes that fast. If this feels shaky, awkward, crampy, or way harder than it looks, that’s your clue: your body is compensating. Comment HIP and tell me: left, right, or both 👀 #hipmobility #internalrotation #somaticmovement #nervoussystemregulation #movementeducation

This short exercise sequence is designed to relieve discomfort, stiffness, and hip pain. By practicing it regularly and refining your technique, you can increase freedom of movement and improve hip and pelvic mobility. Listen to your body, choose a comfortable range of motion, and gradually progress. Recommendations: • Perform each exercise 10 times per leg. Benefits of the exercises: • Increase hip mobility • Strengthen front thigh and stabilization • Stretch hip muscles, improve flexibility • Develop lateral mobility and pelvic balance #nikonmft #hipmobility #pelvicstability #hiphealth #healthymovement

Improving internal hip rotation is often a great way to make your hips feel better overall because it is neglected so much!! It's actually pretty normal for it to feel pretty icky, there's not as much muscles being stretched out like when you work on external rotation so you don’t get that sweet release feeling! Here's how to work on it in the 90/90 and the hip CAR’s… which is basically a standing 90/90 😎 #hipmobility #hiprotation

Your tight hips are silently destroying your movement This is one of the simplest but most powerful ways to unlock your hips. Lying on your back, bring your feet together and let your knees fall out to the sides. From here, gently pulse the knees up and down, allowing the hips to open naturally. No forcing. No tension. Just controlled movement. Run through 20 reps every morning. Why this matters… Your hips are the foundation of your body. When they’re tight, everything above and below pays the price; lower back stiffness, poor posture, restricted movement. This drill restores mobility through the hip joint, improves circulation, and helps reset your body before the day even begins. In the Elite Evaluation, this is your Function pillar in action; building mobility, control, and resilience so your body moves the way it was designed to. Do it daily. Move better. Feel the difference.

If your pelvis can’t move well, your hips won’t either. Before chasing stretches, start by learning how to control anterior and posterior pelvic tilt. Small, controlled motion is the goal, not big exaggerated movements. If standing feels difficult, start on the floor. Add your breathing to help the pelvis move more efficiently. Master this first, then layer in more active hip mobility work. Comment ‘PAINFREE’ if you’re interested in working with our team.

Smooth hips = buttery movements 🧈 2 simple movements to build hip mobility and pelvic control. Instead of just stretching, these focus on strengthening the hips through full ranges, especially targeting the inner thighs and groin. As one leg moves, the other stays stable, forcing your core and pelvic floor to keep the pelvis steady. Over time, this improves movement quality, limits strain on the lower back, and helps reduce built-up tension. #stretch #mobility #health #backpain
