We recently did a campus tour of @NCState with our senior in high school who is looking at all her options. Living in Raleigh we obviously know a lot about NCSU, but potentially sending your kid to college there is a different story, there is lots to consider, and this tour was very helpful and eye opening, for all of us. NC State is located just minutes from downtown Raleigh with more than 35,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It consists of Main Campus (North & Central) which is boarded by Hillsborough Street and Western Boulevard.  Centennial Campus, is just a few minutes away on the wolfline (NC State’s bus system) and known as research campus and home to the College of Engineering and Wilson College of Textiles.  And Centennial Biomedical Campus is home of the College of Veterinary Medicine. NC State is the largest four-year institution in North Carolina and one of the leading public universities in the United States. Campus Tours: Prospective first-year and transfer students who have not yet applied to NC State can attend an admissions information session and student-led campus tour. Visits are offered Monday through Friday starting at Talley Student Union. The kirigami-inspired gripper can balance delicacy, strength, and precision using force distribution. Tiny Robots Use Heat and 3D-Printed Muscles to Grip and Move Researchers at North Carolina State University have developed ultra-thin soft robots—just 0.8 mm thick—that can grip, bend, and return to shape using heat and hydraulic pressure. Created with commercial 3D printing technology, each robot is made of two layers: one has microfluidic channels for movement, while the other is a shape memory polymer that "locks" the robot’s shape when heated to 64°C. These micro-robots move when fluid is pumped into the channels, creating pressure that bends or twists them. A quick application of heat lets the robot freeze in that position, making it ideal for tasks like gripping small objects. Heat can later be applied again to return the robot to its original form. This innovation enables precise control over soft robots at a tiny scale—perfect for delicate tasks in biomedical engineering, micro-manufacturing, or even space missions. The team successfully demonstrated a tiny gripper that could pick up, hold, and release objects with accuracy.
