All 4 quadrants of operant conditioning - teaching the same thing 👀 Lillebjørn and I will demonstrate all 4 in loose leash training - and explain learning theory plus risks involved 🤓⬇️ Examples shown: 1: Positive reinforcement (R+) Loose leash -> I praise my dog and/or toss treats for her to catch. = I ADD something my dog LIKES as a consequence to her doing what I want, which INCREASES the chances of her doing it again. Risks: none (but requires functional rewards, patience and consistency). 2: Negative reinforcement (R-) Loose leash -> I remove leash tension = I REMOVE something my dog DISLIKES as a consequence to her doing what I want, which INCREASES the chances of her doing it again. *This is a tough quadrant - because in order to remove something unpleasant, you often have to apply it first, which makes it similar to positive punishment (see below). Risks: discomfort, frustration, negative association with equipment - or me. 3: Positive punishment (P+) Tight leash -> I say “no!”and/or yank on the leash. = I ADD something my dog DISLIKES as a consequence to her doing what I don’t want, which DECREASES the chances of her doing it again. Risks: injury, pain, fear, frustration, confusion, negative associations with nearby persons/animals/objects/places/the leash - or me. 4: Negative Punishment (P-) Tight leash -> I stop (remove forward motion and/or ability to reach what she wants)* = I REMOVE something my dog LIKES as a consequence to her doing what I don’t want, which DECREASES the chances of her doing it again. *this example works as P- it because my dog has a desire for forwards movement. If stopping causes discomfort, it might be P+. If I hold back until she moves, it might be R- 🤷‍♀️ Risks: frustration, confusion, under-stimulation (if you never get anywhere the dog won’t get their needs covered). What are your thoughts? Would you choose different examples in this situation? Let me know 🤩This is a safe space to discuss. And please share/comment/save/like if you want to support content like this 🥰

Most psychological discoveries arose as an unintended consequence of other experiments. These experiments now form the foundation of psychology. 6 such experiments are: 1. Albert Bandura’s Bobo Doll Experiment- Bandura showed that children learn behaviours by observing others, not just through rewards or punishment. Children exposed to aggressive models were more likely to imitate that aggression. This experiment introduced observational learning. It shaped how we understand media influence, parenting, and social learning today. 2. Pavlov’s Classical Conditioning- Pavlov demonstrated that neutral stimuli can become linked to automatic responses through repeated pairing. Dogs learned to salivate to a bell that had been associated with food. This revealed how learning can happen without conscious awareness. It remains central to understanding phobias, habits, and emotional responses. 3. Skinner’s Rat Box- Skinner showed that behaviour is shaped by its consequences through reinforcement and punishment. Rats learned to press levers when rewarded with food. This formed the basis of operant conditioning. It’s widely applied in education, behaviour therapy, and habit formation. 4. Rosenhan’s “Being Sane in Insane Places”- Rosenhan revealed how psychiatric diagnoses can be influenced by context and expectation. Sane individuals were misdiagnosed as mentally ill in hospitals. The study questioned diagnostic reliability. It influenced reforms in psychiatric classification and assessment practices. 5. Seligman’s Learned Helplessness Experiment- Seligman found that repeated exposure to uncontrollable stress led subjects to stop trying to escape. They learned that their actions no longer mattered. This concept explained how helplessness develops. It remains relevant in understanding depression, trauma, and motivation. 6. The Kitty Genovese Case and the Bystander Effect- This case highlighted how people are less likely to help when others are present. Responsibility becomes diffused across the group. It led to research on the bystander effect. The findings are crucial for understanding emergency response and social responsibility. . . . . {psychology experiments}

S1 EP3: Operant Conditioning There are many many behaviours which we display in our daily lives that are not infact by accident, but rather, happening due to a very simply psychology rule that was discovered century ago, and it basically says... "What happens AFTER you do something, is what affects whether you will do it AGAIN or not." That is known as "Operant Conditioning", wait lemme explain, we will look at one of the most famous experiments in psychology, the "skinner box" (A rat inside a box with an interesting mechanism) It was designed by a scientist named B.F.Skinner Basically what he did was that he put a rat in that box and there was a button inside and the box was made in a way such that anytime the rat pushed a button, only one consequence would happen at a time under controlled conditions and according to such types of different consequences, the rat's behaviour was also being different, psychology field later organized these consequences into 4 types which are called quadrants, below are given those 4 quadrants: 1. Positive reinforcement: Rat presses the button → a food reward appears for him = button pressing increases. eg. You finish your assignments → You get free time to relax = More likely to do it next time too. 2. Negative reinforcement: Rat presses the button → a constant loud noise stops which was bothering him = button pressing increases. eg. You go to the gym → your sadness and depression decreases → you go to gym more often. 3. Positive punishment: Rat presses the button → gets electric shock = button pressing decreases. eg. You interrupt someone when they are talking about something important → they get angry and criticise you → you make sure you dont do it again.  4. Negative punishment: Rat presses the button → his chance to get a food reward is removed = button pressing decreases. eg. You skip your practice session → you end up losing your spot in the team → you lost something you value hence you dont do it again. So now we have learned operant conditioning, but did you know that how strong the learning becomes changes according to the pattern/schedule of the reinforcements? Stay tuned, Episode 4 coming soon...

Double cognitive dual task! The @blazepod set up is in distraction mode (you can tap 2 designated colors- I have blue and red, and avoiding distractions), with also tossing a ABC cognitive ball. My task here is naming a food that begins with the first letter that catches my attention upon the catch. Clearly, I have some room for improvement….can y’all do me a solid and comment some foods that start with a U ?😂 Help a sister out Follow for more fun Neuro PT and balance intervention ideas!

Training can help us better care for the animals at the sanctuary. Sabean, Education Assistant, has been doing operant conditioning, also known as positive reinforcement training, with Saber Tiger. This type of training is voluntary on the animal’s part but can help us provide better husbandry while giving them some extra mental stimulation. #tiger #operantconditioning #sanctuary #pittsboronc

Our proprioceptive sense (input from our joints and muscles) tells us us where our body is in space, the position of our joints and about the force and speed of our movements. Our vestibular sense tells us where we are in relation to gravity via input from receptors in our inner ear. Both of these senses help us with balance (along with vision), body awareness, spatial awareness, coordination and control. Follow me for more on this topic and for fun and dynamic exercises to work on proprioceptive training (coming up next!), plus how proprioceptive and balanced training affect attention, athletic performance and even emotion regulation.
