What we wish you knew about pacing as a disabled person Because who ever really gets it right? and even after years the goalposts keep moving. 1. What pacing actually is: pacing isn’t just for bad days. It’s constant, every single day. It’s planning your energy before the week even begins calculating, sectioning, prioritising. And it’s not just physical; mental, emotional, social energy all need to be considered too. 2. The realities of pacing can be really hard. You have to stop before you need to which takes so much discipline. But if you don’t you’ll pay for it later. And the hardest part is that you don’t always know when you’ve done too much because symptoms can hit hours, days, even a weeks later. 3. The unpredictability because every day is different. Something you could do yesterday might completely wipe you out today. It’s inconsistent, it’s unpredictable but most importantly it's not our fault 4. The trade-offs. Pacing often means missing out on good things just to manage the basics. Choosing between tasks most people don’t think twice about. Cooking OR cleaning. Work OR childcare. It’s not about doing less because we want to it’s about doing less so we can function at all. Let me know what you wish people knew about pacing in the comments and be sure to hit the follow button for part 2. #Pacing #ChronicIllnessLife #DisabledLife

Diet (including what we drink) can affect symptoms of CFS! Here are some recommendations on teas 🫖to drink & avoid if you have CFS and why: 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤: 1️⃣𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗚𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗮🫚 o Benefits: Known for its anti-inflammatory & digestive properties, ginger tea can help alleviate some symptoms of CFS, such as nausea and digestive issues. 2️⃣𝗣𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗮🌿 o Benefits: Can help reduce headaches and improve digestive health. Its refreshing flavour may also provide a mental boost. 3️⃣𝗟𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗮 o Benefits: May help support adrenal function and reduce fatigue. However, it should be consumed in moderation due to potential side effects like increased blood pressure. 4️⃣𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗶𝗯𝗼𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗮 o Benefits: Caffeine-free and rich in antioxidants, rooibos tea can help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation without affecting sleep. It's a great alternative to black tea (we love vanilla rooibos) 🙋‍♀️ 5️⃣𝗔𝘀𝗵𝘄𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗵𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗮 o Benefits: An adaptogen that can help the body cope with stress & fatigue, potentially improving energy levels and reducing the impact of CFS. 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝: 1️⃣𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗖𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝘀🍵 o Why to Avoid: Excessive caffeine can lead to energy crashes, increase anxiety, and disrupt sleep patterns, all of which can exacerbate CFS symptoms. o To Avoid: Strong black teas (e.g., Assam, English Breakfast), high-caffeine green teas (e.g., matcha in large amounts) 2️⃣𝗬𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲 o Why to Avoid: While it provides a strong energy boost due to its high caffeine content, it can also cause jitters and disrupt sleep, making CFS symptoms worse. o To Avoid: Pure yerba mate, flavoured yerba mate blends 3️⃣𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆-𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 o Why to Avoid: Blends containing guarana, ginseng, or other stimulants can lead to an energy spike followed by a crash, aggravating fatigue. o To Avoid: Energy-boosting herbal teas with stimulants L x

[ad] I’ve been living with disabling fatigue for over 15 years now. You might think that adapting my life would be second nature by this point, but I’m genuinely still learning new things about my body and how it works to this day. I haven’t talked about it much online yet but I’ve been experiencing some rather tricky new challenges with my health over the last year or so, and one of the tools I’ve been using to keep on top of things is Visible. I used the free version of the app for a long time before I upgraded to the wearable, but this activity tracker on my arm measures my heart rate as I go about my daily routines. Every day looks different as a disabled freelancer, so being notified when I’m in my exertion zone reminds me to take breaks and make sure I’m getting enough rest. I’ll be honest, it’s been a bit of a shock to me to see how much of a toll even the smallest tasks can have on my body, even just sitting and working at my desk, but @visible.health is helping me to better pace my mental energy as well as my physical energy (something I’ve struggled with for many years) and helping me to catch myself before I fall into booming and busting my way through my to-do-list… You can find out more about Visible on their website, and in the meantime you’ll find me with no regrets about how I spent my final Pace Points on this day!  Have you tried Visible before? I’d love to hear how you’re finding it! ~ [Hashtags] #ChronicIllness #Spoonie #Disability #MECFS #Fatigue #DisabledAndCute #DisabledWriter #DisabledAuthor #DisabledFreelancer #DisabledInfluencer #EnergyLimitingConditions #NEISvoid #Visible #Pacing

Often when I’m in pain, I isolate, spend a 3rd evening in bed watching Netflix, and listen to another podcast about chronic pain to try and fix myself. And don’t get me wrong, sometimes that’s fine and needed. Rest and knowledge about chronic pain is so important. But I noticed a pattern which aligns with pain research. The more I stay in, don’t see friends, move less, and focus on the pain, the worse I feel. My world shrinks, and overtime, my system gets more sensitive, not less. So, I decided to challenge myself. I planned a small hike - something I hadn’t done in a while due to the pain and fears of making things worse. I didn’t go crazy - it was a two hour hike, pretty flat, had an ice cream at the end and lay on the sofa the rest of the day. Yes I was in pain, but I got some sun on my face, fresh air and a sense of moving forward. And hopefully, overtime my system will desensitise with these small exposures. What’s something you’ve done recently and enjoyed despite being in pain? #chronicpain #fibromyalgia #chronicpainrecovery #chronicpainawareness #pacing

AD| I am NOT A CHEAT ‼️ thankfully I can use my @visible.health band to help prove this… I was sent this visible band a few months ago and have spent every day since testing it out to see what it shows and whether it was useful for me. After using the data and properly trying to pace myself, I’ve actually found it really helpful and very validating ✨ I was even able to print out a health report and take it to my doctor’s appointment to prevent them from gaslighting me. They FINALLY listened! 🙌 If you have a chronic illness, I highly recommend you to look into this product as it’s helped me so much. Feel free to ask me any questions about it. #chronicillness #disabled #visible #visiblehealth #disibility #pacing

Fun tax. A compulsory contribution to ‘pay back’ the extra energy or symptoms pushed through due to the cost of the fun. At one point I stopped planning anything ‘fun’ or leaving the house as the cost felt too high. I was the only one who could pay back the debt. It would be me spending hours alone in a dark room, blaming myself for misjudging it or feeling guilty for not listening to my body. The tax felt unpredictable too, some times I would get away lightly and other times it felt like I was paying it off for weeks. Sometimes I wasn’t sure if I’d ever pay it off and I would stay in debt. Now I feel more in control of the tax as I know my body better and what my my baselines are. I am grateful to have the option of when I can choose to do more or when I have no choice but to rest. Most importantly when I have pushed my body, I give myself the time and care I need to recover back to my baseline before I push myself again - I don’t want to be multiplying how much tax I pay in one go. I don’t need to feel guilty as I’m trying my best to balance living my life with my symptoms 🤍 I am guilty of always taking the analogy too far 😂 #chronicillness #chronicfatigue #symptoms #pacing #energymanagement #fatigue #lowenergy #energylimitingconditions #pain #chronicpain #flares #spoonie #physiotherapy #autoimmune

Ever wonder why your story loses people halfway through? Here’s the crucial element most miss… Welcome to Part 10 of my 11-part series on mastering storytelling to influence anyone, anywhere. Today, we’re talking about Controlling the Flow and Energy of Your Story with Pacing. 📖✨ Pacing is the rhythm of your story—it’s what keeps your audience hanging on every word or, if done wrong, makes them zone out. Too slow, and they lose interest. Too fast, and they miss key points. 💡 Here’s today’s tool: Practice slowing down when you reach a critical point in your story. Use a slight pause to let your audience absorb the message before continuing. 🎯 Stay tuned for the final lesson, where we’ll tie everything together and show you how to elevate your personal brand through storytelling! #Storytelling #Pacing #Influence #OwnTheRoom #Leadership #MasterYourMessage #CommunicationSkills #EngageYourAudience

Fitness is hard, it’s not supposed to be easy. But no one ever said we can’t take our time, breathe, go at our own pace. Fitness doesn’t mean you go at 100 all the time. Pacing is a really important tool to learn. Here are some tips on how to pace: 1️⃣ Start slower than you think 2️⃣ Make sure you are warmed up (warm up is the hardest part) 3️⃣ Take your time (it’s a marathon not a sprint) unless you are sprinting 😬😉 4️⃣ Focus on your exhale. Breathe and stay calm, as much as you can. 5️⃣ Go at your own pace, don’t try to do the same thing as others, we aren’t all the same. do what’s right for you. What advice would you give others?? - - #pacing #workout #fitnesstips #plussizepersonaltrainer

I’ve realised that when I start to be extra critical of myself for resting, it’s a sign I actually need to rest more The more critical my brain is, the more my brain is trying to protect me and keep me safe. Except it’s way of doing that isn’t helpful in the modern world - more helpful running away from predators than deciding to whether to do more admin. Whereas before I used to listen to that critic and push past what my body can cope with. I used to always come to the realisation that I wasn’t lazy, I was just really tired. Now I notice that negative voice and recognise it as another clue that my body needs me to slow down, before I overdo it. I truly believe we are not lazy or unmotivated humans and if you feel that way it’s worth checking in on why instead of just believing that false narrative. When in doubt, rest and don’t let your brain beat yourself up for it 🤍 #rest #chronicillness #chronicfatigue #burnout #tired #pacing #chronicpain #pain #painscience #autoimmune #pots #cfs #chronicfatiguesyndrome #me #recovery
