BAND PLACEMENT FOR SIDE STEPS โœ…SAVE this post for your future reminder. โžก๏ธSide steps are a common warm up exercise used before a workout. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธA common question I get is โ€œDoes it matter where I put the band?โ€ ๐Ÿ‘Š๐ŸผShort answer is YES- if you want the best possible use of your time. A research study found that with the band at your ankles or feet you will have a substantial increase in muscle activation than with the band at your knees (stats in video). Specifically, with the band around your feet it greatly increases glute max activation as well as glute med and TFL, due to incorporation of a rotational component at the feet with the resistance. When performing side steps next time try it with the band around your ankles or feet and feel the ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

Side bend mistakes and corrections tips. Side bend or lateral spinal flexion is a good exercise to train your obliques. This video shows the common mistakes made by beginners while performing side bends and how to correct them. โŒ๏ธ Do not use two weight plates on both sides. This counteracts the resistance. โœ…๏ธ hold the weight plate on one side and turn your torso sideways on the opposite side to challenge the muscles. โŒ๏ธ Do not move towards the weight plate during the side bend. This removes tension from the muscles. โœ…๏ธ Bend your torso against the weight plate to ensure challenge to the muscles. Note: Using weight plates for side bend is not an optimal way to train your obliques because the line of resistance of the weight plates are always vertical to the floor and hence this doesn't match with the line of bend movement. Hence, it is always best to perform side bend on the cable machine setup as shown in this video to optimally train oblique muscles. .
