The smith machine is a versatile piece of equipment that is AWESOME for both beginners and more advanced lifters! Iโ€™ve highlighted 10 movements, but there are plenty more! A few advantages of the Smith Machine include: โœ… Built in safety hacks โœ… Can be less intimidating than a free barbell โœ… Can help you perfect your form in a more stable environment โœ… Allows you to use heavier weights than a free rack โœ… Better stability A few drawbacks include: ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ The range of motion is fixed, so you some exercises can be difficult to perform properly ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ It only moves up and down, working one plane of motion (unless you have a freedom rack like the one shown in my video where the barbell moves more freely inside of the rack) ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผDoesnโ€™t challenge your stability as much as a free barbell does I personally love the smith machine! If incline bench pressing on a Smith machine feels awkward and you find that the bar is just aiming for your neck on the way down, well, it could be that youโ€™re facing the wrong direction If the Smith machine is slightly slanted, ideally you want to be facing the direction go against the slant. This means that the further the bar moves away from you as you press it, the closer the bar will be moving towards your head. On the other hand as the bar moves down and reaches your chest, the lower it should be landing towards your sternum. It should not be the other way around, where as you press up the bar moves further away from you lower towards your sternum, and as you bring the bar down it gets higher towards your neck. This also matches the ideal bar path on a free weight incline barbell bench press. That was oddly more difficult to explain than it needed to be but anyone who has pressed the wrong way on a Smith machine will understand.

Elbows will be pushed towards body. ๐Ÿ”ธ Medium - wide overhand handle: Targets the middle/ upper half of the back.
