STEP UP vs. STEP DOWN; why do we care!? ๐Ÿ‘‡ first, save this to refer back to and share with your gym partner ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ โฌ†๏ธ a step up is more of a power oriented movement that starts at the bottom and moves to a standing position itโ€™s faster, requires a big push through the foot and achieves full hip extension at the top this is important to train for force production through mainly a single leg you can load this one heavier as its concentric action demands less control and more load โฌ‡๏ธ a step down is going to be more force absorption this means tempo matters!!! you think about going as slow as you can to build and maintain tension throughout this move starts at the top standing while you allow one leg to slowly reach back for the ground the goal is to barely tap the ground (IF you can even reach the ground) and use still the leg that is on the step to push yourself back up this one is done with less additional load than a step up and requires the person performing to movement to really understand how to hold tension in a muscle โ†•๏ธ they are both extremely useful as itโ€™s a large range of motion with the hip in flexion (& ankle in dorsiflexion which is another entire convo) hip in flexion means the lower glute is going to be in a stretched position which makes the glute max a huge target tissue when the glute max is strong and powerfulโ€ฆ thatโ€™s the ๐Ÿ‘ everyone wants! shoutout to @projectsunny for helping me demo this ๐Ÿ™Œ ๐Ÿ’• like it!? helpful!? Single leg step downs are one of my favorites ๐Ÿคฉ They help with unilateral strength, balance, and hip stability all of which will help you run more comfortably! Focus on lowering slowly and controlling the eccentric part and then lightly tap the ground but donโ€™t transfer your weight down to the ground. I used a soft box in this video but in order to make it easier to balance you can use a firmer box. You can also hold a light counterweight out in front of you to help you balance. And to make it more challenging you can increase the height of the box. . . . . #singlelegexercises #stabilityforrunners #strengthforrunners #singlelegstrength #singlelegstepdown #stabilityworkout #stabilityexercises #runnerstrength #fitnessmotivation #yeoreo #yeoreoofficial

TODAYโ€™S ADVANCED STEP ROUTINE โ€” Happy Wednesday, folks! ๐Ÿค— In the locker room before my class today, I heard a comment that really sat with me. One of the ladies said that her friend told her she could do another step instructorโ€™s class, but not my class. The other step instructor challenges the class endurance/cardio wise, but I add an element challenging them on choreography as well. Honest feedback that instantly made me question myself... โ€” How do you handle criticism? Many years ago I would have taken this comment personally thinking that maybe my class is too hard and I need to scale it back some. Maybe Iโ€™m overdoing it... maybe itโ€™s too much at one time. Am I working my people too hard? When I realized that I was questioning myself, I shook those thoughts into positive ones and told the ladies thatโ€™s weโ€™re both great instructors who have different class styles - we challenge you differently and thatโ€™s a good thing! โ€” Iโ€™m thrilled that step aerobics is making a comeback, and Iโ€™m even more excited to see all of the amazing instructors carving out their own spaces in this industry and this niche! We all offer something different, and itโ€™s beautiful! As instructors and class attendees, we all have to find our space and what works for us. Iโ€™m not a member of @thestepsistas, and I may not push you like @thegiftd1, but I guarantee you that no matter what class you attend - you will have fun, you will be motivated, you will work hard and you will leave with a sense of accomplishment! As an advocate of fitness/wellness, I donโ€™t care whose class you attend as long as you get it in! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ”ฅ โ€” I love what I do, and I wonโ€™t stop! I love being a part of this movement - donโ€™t let fear stop you from achieving your goals! GET OUT OF YOUr OWN WAY & DO WHAT YOU CANโ€™T. Much love! . . . . * I do not own the rights to this music * . . . Step-downs are a powerful lower-body exercise often called a glute killer โ€” and for good reason. They target the glutes, hamstrings, and quads, while also improving balance and stability. The movement involves stepping off a platform or bench with one leg, lowering yourself under control, then driving back up through your heel. This forces each glute to work independently, helping fix muscle imbalances and build that round, lifted shape. Unlike heavy squats, step-downs isolate the glutes in a more controlled, functional way โ€” giving you strength, shape, and symmetry. Add them to your leg day, slow down the reps, and feel the burn light up your glutes like never before.

What are STEP UPS good for? They work a lot of muscles and help you with stability. โœจHow to do step ups correctly? Pushing primarily through your lead foot, lift your body up onto the step or box. Then step backward to the starting position with controlled movements. When youโ€™re doing step-ups, keep your back straight and your abdominal muscles nice and tight. PETERSON STEP DOWN ๐Ÿš€ In my opinion the best exercise to stabilize your knee! I have used these plenty of times in prehab/rehab procedures when dealing with knee pain! If you have knee issues often times this should be a STAPLE in your WARM UP! I like to start with a 20kg Plate and then do 5 slow and controled reps per side! Then I increase by a 10kg plate until I am slightly above parallel! Make sure that you push back your hips in order to engage your glutes! Then step down without actually loading the foot that is touching the floor! ๐Ÿ“ธ: @snatchandsnaps ๐Ÿ“ˆ: @capacityprogram ๐Ÿค: @tommys_tape @affenhand @officialbodylab24 #rehab #kneepain #prehab #berlin #athlete #training #capacityprogram #crossfit
