Tested my dragon fly strength yesterday. This was the first time I did this exercise since 2023. While I really like dragon flyes, the fatigue that comes with it is insane, so it's not an exercise I keep in my routine for long. My personal best from 2 years ago was 5 reps, so as you can imagine I was pretty happy to crank out 8 reps. Here are 5 basic steps / progressions to help you guide not only the core strength but strength in your biceps / lats as well. They play a huge part in this exercise. While working each progression, make sure you can do anywhere from 4-6 clean reps of each especially when getting into the actual dragon flag progressions. Tuck, S. Leg, and Straddle. For the first two, I would aim for higher reps. Anywhere from 6-10. You can also work isometric holds as well which are not in the video because it would make it too long. Who has time for a video over 25 seconds, anyways? Haha Work on tuck, single leg and straddle ISO holds to help build strength in the core and biceps💪🏻 Take your time and master each step before moving onto the next! 1️⃣Leg Lift + Pulse 2️⃣Dragon Flag Negatives 3️⃣ISO Holds (tuck, s. leg, straddle) 4️⃣Tuck Dragon Flags 5️⃣S. Dragon flags/raises don’t just look cool, they do load the abs effectively and once you get some control down, you can even tweak your form to make them more purely isometric and word on maintaining a neutral spine throughout the raise, or add some dynamic spine movement and take them from a stretch at the bottom to a tight contraction at the top. All of this is possible when you build your core up properly from the start. These progressions are built into my new complete core program on my website right now (link in bio) 💪🏻
