What she actually spent ~30 years on Her main focus is a molecule called polylaminin (derived from laminin, a protein in our tissues). The big idea: Help damaged spinal cord tissue regenerate, and potentially restore movement in people with paralysis The central nervous system (brain/spinal cord) was long thought unable to regenerate properly What the “breakthrough” is about Her team found that polylaminin can: - stimulate nerve fiber (axon) growth - reduce inflammation - help reorganize damaged tissue In animal studies and early human observations, there were signs of partial recovery of movement after spinal cord injury.
