A lot of people think the reformer was invented to make Pilates harder. But originally, it was actually designed to make Pilates more accessible. Joseph Pilates developed the reformer using springs attached to a bed frame while working with injured and unwell patients. Many of them couldn’t get down onto the floor to perform traditional mat exercises. The springs allowed movements to be supported or assisted, helping people build strength and mobility while lying down. That’s why the reformer is so effective for: • injury rehabilitation • beginners • people with limited mobility The springs can make exercises easier or harder, depending on how they’re used. So while reformer Pilates can definitely be challenging… its original purpose was actually to help people move when mat Pilates wasn’t possible. Save this if you love a bit of Pilates history 🤍 #pilates #pilatesinstructor #josephpilates #classicalpilates #reformerpilates

As a Pilates instructor, these are small adjustments I correct in class almost every day. Because in Pilates, small details can completely change whether the exercise works the way it’s meant to. A small correction can instantly change which muscles activate, how supported your spine feels, and how effective the movement becomes. Here are a few common mistakes I see daily in my classes: ✨ Losing pelvic stability in planks Instead of letting the lower back arch and the glutes push back, gently tuck the pelvis in and engage the deep core. Think about drawing the ribs toward the hips so the spine stays supported. ✨ Not imprinting the spine in supine exercises Before moving the legs or arms, gently imprint the lower back into the mat by engaging the deep core. This stabilises the pelvis and prevents the lower back from taking over the movement. ✨ Inactive feet on the footbar Instead of relaxing the feet or resting on the heels, actively push through the heels with the feet flexed. This helps connect the movement to the glutes and posterior chain. ✨ Arching the lower back Avoid letting the lower back collapse. Gently tuck the pelvis and engage the deep core to support the spine. ✨ Hand placement on the bar Wrap the thumb over the bar rather than underneath it. This creates better wrist alignment and more stable shoulder support. ✨ Shifting weight away from the working leg in lunges Instead of dropping the hips toward the middle, send the hips slightly backwards and place most of your body weight into the bent leg. This allows the glute to actually activate. Pilates isn’t about bigger or faster movements. It’s about better connection and control. And sometimes the smallest adjustment makes the exercise ten times more effective. Save this for your next Pilates session. Save this to flatten your lower abs 🔥 After 20 years teaching Pilates, this is still one of my favourite 10-minute deep core flows for flattening the lower stomach and cinching the waist. The roller helps you find neutral pelvis so the deep core (TA) switches on properly instead of gripping through the hip flexors and lower back. The hand weights challenge the upper abs and help knit the ribs together, while the elevated legs create long lean tone without bulky hips or thighs ✨ Low impact. Deep core burn. Tone without bulk 🫶🏼 Star x12 Double toe taps x12 Dead bug x12 Repeat circuit 3 times 🤍 My ankle weights are 1kg / 2.2lbs and my hand weights are 2kg / 4.4lbs. You can absolutely do this without weights too ☺️🫶🏼 Check out the linked reel, part 2, for roller placement under the lower back if you’re trying this one, will make a huge difference! ☺️ Save this and follow for Pilates that actually works ✨ #pilates #matpilates #corestrength #pilatesinstructor #foamrollerworkout

Small adjustment, completely different connection. This week we focused on actually finding the lower abs by placing the block under the feet . And abs were found 🔥🔥🔥 Additional form tip: imagine pressing heels into the wall behind you rather than hiking up the hips. Come experience what we’re working on this week.

i’ve been in the fitness industry for 10 years, but the moment i stepped into the pilates world and got to know the ”pilates body” trend… it did mess up with my head🥲 reality is: only things you need to be an amazing instructor is a body where you can see the actual effects of pilates aka great posture, strong core & body control. and this will look different on every instructor🩵 #pilatesinstructor #pilates #pilatesbody #bodytrend

As a Pilates instructor, I know a student is truly advanced when… 1- not when they do the flashiest moves like teaser, snake or handstands… but when they make the basics look intentional 2- they move slower than everyone else not to look aesthetic but because they feel every inch of the exercise 3- they don’t rely on momentum in hard moves - no swinging, bouncing or cheating, just pure control (even it 🔥 like hell) 4- they use breathing to engage their core and help the exercise, not holding it when things get hard 5- they correct themselves before I even say a word because they’re actually in their body ✨ and the biggest one… they don’t chase “harder” and they chase precision Because Pilates was never about doing more. It’s about doing it with control, with awareness, with intention. And the more advanced you become… the quieter your practice looks from the outside but the deeper it feels on the inside. And it FEELS completely different for you 🤍 — If you reached this point… you know ✨ Follow @pilates_pilot for intentional, smart pilates and training insights. #pilatesinstructor #pilatesstudent #pilates #reformerpilates #pilatescommunity

1. I stopped overthinking how creative my class plans had to be. 80% bread-and-butter classics sprinkled with 20% creativity. Turns out clients come back for well-taught fundamentals, not a gymnastics class. 2. I repeated class plans. A lot. Repetition isn’t lazy but it’s actually how people learn and improve. One class shouldn’t be their only chance to learn and refine a movement. 3. I made people feel successful, not just challenged. I stopped chasing “harder” and the craziest flows I saw on social media, but started coaching people so they left feeling strong and capable. 4. I stopped caring if movement looked Instagram-perfect. A lunge doesn’t need to look aesthetic to be effective. Bodies are all built and move differently so if they feel it where the exercise intends, then you’ve done your job. 5. I simplified my cues. Less poetic imagery, more clear communication. Simple cues land. Complicated cues sound impressive until nobody gets them, and you’re left with 12 pairs of eyes all wandering the room confused and 12 bodies all performing a different exercise. 6. I leaned hard into the basics. The classics work for a reason. I layered them, refined them, cued them better instead of constantly reinventing exercises. 7. I stopped trying to teach the “perfect” class every time. Progress over perfection. Some classes feel off. Reflect, adjust, learn from it and move on. 8. I built connection, not just good programming. Remember your clients’ names, talk to them before and after class, coach people and check in individually during the class. Create an experience for them, and not just “another group exercise class”. Community and connection waitlisted my classes as much as programming did.
