Pull-Up Negatives (eccentrics) are FLIPPING HARD! So, it drives me insane when I see so many videos telling you to “just do them” The first time most of us try these – we just drop! Coz they’re SOLID! If you’re ready for this version, here’s a few tips in this video. If you need a better starting place, I’ll be posting some variations to try over the next few days.

STRICT PULL-UP DRILLS 💪🏽 . Strict Pull-Ups require a significant amount of upper body strength. Give these exercises a try to work towards getting your first or improving the ones you already have 😊 . EXERCISES: 1. SCAP PULL-UPS - this activates our scapular muscles, which gives us a stable base to utilize the rest of our upper body muscles correctly 2. TOP OF PULL-UP HOLD - hold as long as you can; accumulating 1-2 min is a great goal 3. SLOW ECCENTRIC LOWER - eccentric strength is a great tool for strength development; lower as slowly as possible (shoot for 5-10+ sec for 8-10 repetitions) 4. BANDED PULL-UPS - start with as many bands as you need and slowly reduce as it gets easier. Accumulate 30-50 repetitions 3. JUMPING PULL-UPS - goal is to jump as little as needed to complete the rep. Making your pull-ups feel easier: 🫵🏻 squeeze the bar through the outer side of your palm and little fingers as if you’re trying to *snap* or bend the bar in half over your head 😮‍💨 then drive your elbow down and back, not down and in front of the body. this will make sure you’re using your back to do the work rather than just pulling through your arms ☝🏼 think about pulling the bar to you (like a lat pull down) instead of hauling yourself up to the bar. Can’t do a pull up? Try these 7 progressions to get there! Just about every single woman I train has a goal to be able to do at least 1 pull up. And it’s one of the hardest exercises to learn how to do. This is how I taught my self to do pull ups. Chin ups are a little easier then pull ups. I can do about 3 - 5 unassisted pull ups and I’ve been working on them for years. It’s one of those exercises where If you “don’t use it you lose it”. But it’s the BEST feeling when you get that first one so keep up the practice! So get stuck in and try some of these every week! Note - the negative pull ups video is meant to be wide grip oops. But they can be intimidating and tough 😅…so here’s some form tips and ways to make it feel better ✅Start at the top of the bar. You can climb up there, use a chair, jump, whatever you feel most comfortable with ✅Relax the shoulders, meaning don’t let those shoulda hunch up to your ears ✅Lower down as slow as humanely possible. Especially at the BOTTOM. So many people drop half way and never build the muscle at the most important part of the pull-up…which is the bottom. ✅Use a stool or chair to help you with that bottom piece, use it as a guide to lower you all the way down ✅I like to switch my grip around while doing these to work different muscles 🥰 ✅take at least a 1-2min break before doing it again.
