New IPF technical rules state: Lifters are expected to enter and exit the lifting area or platform in a respectful manner, refraining from discarding their belt on the floor or engaging in any conduct that may be harmful to the integrity of the sport. Is this rule justified? #ipf #powerlifting

The 2026 IPF rulebook includes numerous updates. Many of them are unchanged from previous years or focus on attire, jewelry, and administrative details. In this post, we are focusing strictly on the changes that impact how you lift on the platform. Some of the wording in the rulebook is vague and open to interpretation. Below is our interpretation of the key changes and how they may affect you as an athlete. 🔸Squat: The bar must be placed no lower than the rear delts. Thumbless grips remain allowed, but fingers, hands, and thumbs must stay in contact with the bar at all times. Lifters must also exit the rack from the back. 🔸Bench Press: Language now addresses excessive sinking or thrusting of the bar off the chest. Lifters using an exaggerated sink (that causes a change in upper back angle) and drive may face stricter scrutiny on press initiation. Lifters must also not enter the rack from the side of the head judge. 🔸Deadlift: Lockout wording has changed. Our interpretation is that shoulders must be clearly pulled back behind the bar to demonstrate completion. Lifters must also walk around the bar after the lift is complete as opposed to over it. 🔸Knee Sleeves: Athletes may receive assistance from a coach when putting on or removing knee sleeves. 🔸Platform Conduct: The rulebook states that lifters must enter and exit the platform in a respectful manner, refraining from discarding their belt on the floor or engaging in conduct that may harm the integrity of the sport. While subjective, our interpretation is that lifters should avoid throwing their belt, swearing, excessively celebrating, or prolonged displays after completing an attempt. Once the lift is finished, exit the platform in a controlled manner. As always, enforcement may vary by meet and referee panel. When in doubt, lift conservatively and prioritize clear, intentional execution. If you want help preparing your lifts for stricter technical standards, reach out or speak with your coach ahead of competition. #Reformance #2026 #IPF #powerlifting #strengthcoach

I’ve had a few people message me about how to set up on the bench now that the IPF rules have changed (note: @usapowerlifting rules have NOT changed and you can still do this). I don’t think the new rules make much of a difference. I honestly, I think they put this one in because they didn’t like people’s feet on the bench 😂 I would get some flack for stepping up onto the bench when I broke a world record … Want to up your powerlifting game?Subscribe to thompsonsgym.programs.app to get access to all my programs, Instructional videos, metrics and an invite into my private community! @a7intl @sspnutrition @thestrengthacademypodcast #demandgreatness #strongerthanbefore #powerlifters #fitness #weightlifting #thompsonsgym #benchpress #benching

THE DEADLIFT KILLER You’ve seen the rules changes, yet all the focus has been on celebrations and jewellery but we are not speaking enough about the Deadlift changes … Now with the need to bring the shoulders ‘back behind the imaginary line (we can laugh about that later) there is ONE thing you need to be cautious of. The MOST common fault that follows is unlocking the knees 🔒 This will need a big focus on start position to avoid the shoulders being too far protracted as then getting them back behind that line can lead to soft knees. So what do you think? Is the rule change needed or is this creating more problems?
