These are the three most common signs of executive dysfunction in adults: 1. Procrastination. This might look like… - knowing what to do being unable to start - delaying tasks until the last minute - spending excessive time preparing, researching, or organizing instead of starting 2. Emotional dysregulation. This might look like… - decision paralysis - being stuck in rumination - having small setbacks derail your day 3. Inconsistent working memory. Which may look like… - forgetting what you’re doing in the middle of doing it - needing information repeated or reread multiple times - forgetting to-dos, appointments, and other commitments If you resonate, know that these skills can be taught, learned, and honed over time. You’re not broken. You just haven’t learned the strategies that work with your brain. #executivefunction #neurodivergent #executivedysfunction #executivefunctioncoach

Which executive functioning skill do you struggle most with? For me it’s that shower with a hair wash. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE a good shower, it’s just all of the steps around it that make it seem like SUCH a chore. ADHD often brings along a disruptive force called executive dysfunction, which hampers our ability to plan, organize, and initiate tasks. So, when it comes to something as seemingly simple as showering, executive dysfunction delights in throwing obstacles our way. Distractions become irresistible temptations, diverting our attention from the bathroom and into the abyss of our racing thoughts. Time seems to warp, transforming minutes into seemingly endless hours as we succumb to procrastination. The mere thought of starting a task can trigger a surge of overwhelming emotions, often leading us to avoid it altogether. #executivedysfunction #adhd #audhd #asd #autism #neurodivergent #mentalhealthawareness

What increases executive dysfunction for you? While shame doesn’t explain the root cause of all executive dysfunction in ADHD, it is a common factor that powerfully amplifies it. Many people with ADHD grew up needing a nudge at the start of tasks—only to be labeled incompetent, careless, or slow. Early difficulties with initiation were often misunderstood in a brain that needed more time to pick up on patterns rather than focus on details right away. Over time, fears of failure—of being “too sloppy,” “not put together enough,” or not like your neurotypical peers—can make starting even harder. It’s like a puppy trying to navigate the space between cups, while comparing itself to the cats around it who seem to leap into tasks effortlessly—never getting the chance to recognize the gift of its persistence and instincts. The solution isn’t more pressure or shame. It’s finding environments that don’t punish you for early mistakes, and giving yourself space to grow into a task. With support, safety, and time, many people with ADHD discover that persistence—especially in private or non-judgmental spaces—not only improves executive functioning, but can flip it on its head, making them exceptional at certain tasks over time. #adhdtips #avoidantattachment #executivedysfunction

ADHD & executive function ⬇️ Executive function is what helps us plan, prioritize, start tasks, manage time, regulate emotions, and follow through. In people with ADHD, these functions are impaired, which explains why we can want to do something and know it’s important, and still struggle. We can’t decide where to begin. We lose track of time. We shut down from overwhelm. Even with the best intentions and a fully mapped-out to-do list, we can still manage to get absolutely nothing done and it’s incredibly frustrating. Here are 6 ways executive dysfunction makes life difficult for people with ADHD. Let me know some of the ways you struggle day to day, and follow me for more relatable content about adult ADHD. #adhdexplained #adhdstruggles #adhdmidlife #adhdproblems #adhdbrain #adhdfacts #adhdmom #adhdawareness #adultadhd #adhdwomen #adhdmom #neurodivergent #neurodiverse #neurospicy #relatablemom #honestmom

Have you ever had trouble starting or completing tasks, organizing your thoughts, or managing your time? Executive dysfunction can impact many aspects of daily life, from work, parenthood, and school to personal relationships and self-care. It can make it difficult to stay focused, set goals, and follow through on plans. Often times executive dysfunction shows up when we are living in a state of survival mode. When your brain is offline it is focusing on safety. Protection. Not how to manage your emotions, thoughts, and actions. But when you finally learn HOW your individual brain functions and finally start taking care of your brain and body in the correct way, regulation will take place. And the executive dysfunction will decrease. Imagine that! And that option is MORE than available to you. If you want to know what that path looks like DM me I WANT THE REPLAY, and I will DM you my FREEEEE Battling Burnout webinar. THIS is the first place to start. Stop waiting to show up for your own life. Let’s do this. ADHDers: Ever had something you were genuinely excited to do — and still… you just couldn’t start? That’s not laziness. That’s executive dysfunction. ADHD brains often want to do the thing, and still hit a wall when it comes to actually starting. Motivation exists, but it’s stuck behind time blindness, unclear steps, internal pressure, or a nervous system that hasn’t gotten the green light yet. What helps: ✔️ Break it down even more — like “open the file,” not “write the thing” ✔️ Time-box it (10–20 minutes is enough to create momentum) ✔️ Pair it with dopamine — music, snacks, a cozy setting ✔️ Use a body double or co-working session ✔️ Say it out loud: “This is exciting and hard to start” — both can be true 💬 What’s something you were excited to do… and still procrastinated like hell? Drop it below — you’re not alone in this. #ADHDCoach #AdultADHD #ExecutiveFunction #ADHDRealLife #ADHDStrategies #TaskInitiation #ADHDMotivation #NeurodivergentLife
