GUESS THE DIAGNOSIS 👇 27 year old female Training for a half marathon Never run before training for this Started getting pain under the kneecap… Now it hurts: ⬇️ Going down the stairs 🏋️‍♀️ Squatting 🪑 Sitting for a while She’s still running through it and it’s getting worse 👀 What’s your diagnosis? 👇👇👇 . . . . . . . . Answer: Patella Tendinopathy Patellar tendinopathy is an overload injury of the patellar tendon (the tendon that connects your kneecap to your shin bone) What is it? A reactive or degenerative change in the tendon caused by repetitive stress exceeding what the tendon is currently prepared for What causes it? Sudden increase in training load (new runner + half marathon prep) 📈 Too much, too soon 💪 Reduced tendon capacity 🏃‍♀️ Running through pain 🦵 could be weak quads / poor load tolerance Tendons love load…But they hate spikes in load What helps? ✔️ Temporarily reduce aggravating load (not complete rest) ✔️ Structured strength training (especially heavy slow resistance for quads) ✔️ Gradual return to running ✔️ Manage volume + intensity Tag a runner who needs to hear this 👇 #kneepain #runningmotivation #kneerehab #physio
