HOW TO: ASSISTED PULL UPS 🙋🏽‍♀️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Pull ups are one of the best upper body exercises for building back strength and muscle definition. Using an assisted pull up machine can help you progress if you’re working on achieving unassisted pull ups, but form is everything! Let’s break it down: ✅ Top Video (Do’s): Notice how my body is fully extended at the bottom of the movement, and I pull myself all the way up until my chin clears the bar. My back and core are fully engaged, keeping my torso steady without swinging. This full range of motion (ROM) activates my lats, biceps, and core, ensuring I maximize each rep. Keep your shoulders down and back, avoiding any shrugging. 🚫 Bottom Video (Don’ts): Here, I’m cutting the movement short by not reaching full extension at the bottom and not pulling high enough at the top. This limits muscle engagement and reduces the effectiveness of the exercise. Without proper ROM, you’re missing out on building strength where it counts! Focus on controlled reps, maintaining tension through your back muscles, and resist using momentum to pull yourself up. Progress takes time, but with consistent practice and good form, you’ll be hitting those unassisted pull ups. #pullups #fitness #calisthenics #workout #crossfit #fitnessmotivation #gym #motivation #pushups #streetworkout #strength #muscleup #training #bodybuilding #gymnastics #dips #fit #handstand #pullup #bodyweight #calisthenicsworkout #workoutmotivation #squats #bodyweighttraining #bodyweightworkout #deadlift #muscle #frontlever #pushup

ARE YOU MAKING THIS MISTAKE? ❌ Assisted pull ups are a great exercise for strengthening and building the back muscles. But I commonly see people performing them wrong and not getting the full benefits! Not achieving full range of motion is the most common form error I see. It’s important to remember that the back muscles are supposed to be the primary focus when performing pull ups. Doing partial reps doesn’t allow the lats to come to a fully lengthened position between reps, which encourages the arms to kick in and do most of the work. Your arms should be fully extended at the bottom of the movement. If you are unable to achieve this, the weight is likely too heavy. If using an assisted machine - increase the amount of weight you are offsetting your body weight by to make the exercise easier (note: the machine works by offsetting your weight to make the exercise easier. The more weight you select - the easier the exercise is. Selecting less weight makes the exercise more difficult). If you are using a band - use a thicker band or add an extra band to make it easier. When pulling yourself up, initiate the movement by retracting and depressing your shoulder blades. Try to envision pulling with your elbows and drive them down towards the floor. Stick your chest out, and lean back just a bit. These are great cues to make sure you’re working your back instead of your arms. It is also important to perform this exercise with control and really focus on the target muscle instead of using momentum to lift yourself and pump out the reps. Save this post and make sure that you are putting these tips into practice! ➡️ Tag someone who needs help with their form! ⬇️

3️⃣ tips for using the assisted pull up/dip machine👇🏽 ❗️On this machine, the heavier the weight you choose, the EASIER it becomes. This is because weight you’re trying to move is YOU, and the machine is assisting you by countering some of that load. TIP ☝🏽: Start with a weight heavier than your bodyweight, and adjust from there. TIP ✌🏽: Control both the concentric and eccentric of this movement (the up and down.) Don’t drop yourself down like a ton of bricks, and don’t yank yourself up to smash the machine at the top. TIP 🤟🏽: Take advantage of the assistance. Get comfortable in the full range of a pull up and dip with some help so you can carry on that movement to unassisted. No half reps here! ✨ASSISTED PULL UP MACHINE 💪🏽 Really good for increasing strength in the back and upper body to build the foundations of getting your first pull-ups! 🩷 I always recommend to put your thumbs with the rest of your fingers to help engage the back better. 🤍 Remember to keep your ribs stacked on top of your pelvis throughout the whole movement. 🩷 Assess knee/shin placement on support pad so that your lower body aligns with your upper body to avoid arching the back. UNPOPULAR OPINION? 🤷‍♀️ If you want to progress your chin ups then stop using this machine! There are so many other progressions to build strong upper body muscles and the pattern required for pull movements. When you use this machine your not able to * Access your bottom range eg dead hang * Activate and hold the static position at the top of the movement * Effectively engage your core * Active your muscles on the eccentric You could do 10-20 reps using this machine and it will never actually transfer into doing a single body weight pull up 💥 While assisted weight chin-up machines can provide support for beginners, relying on them exclusively will limit your progress in developing strength and stability. It’s crucial to challenge yourself with bodyweight exercises to improve functional strength and balance, which may not be fully achieved with machine assistance. This is a common mistake made by gym goers when using the assisted pullup machine. To be safe, allow the kneepad to come up all the way before getting off the machine so it doesnt spring up & make a really loud clanging noise. #gym #gymtok #gymmotivation #gymrat #gymlife #pullup #fitness #femalegym #birmingham #fyp #ladiesonly

WORKOUT WITH ME WEDNESDAY 💗 The assisted pull up this week.. 💗 Primary Muscles worked: Lats, arms and shoulders 💗 Benefits: A body weight pull up can be near impossible for most people to perform as they require a lot of upper body and core strength, this machine can therefore be used to help work on improving grip and strengthening the muscles used in a body weight pull up. All abilities can use the machine to help build up to an unassisted pull up. 💗 How to perform: - Set the pin to the desired weight, noting that with this machine the heavier the weight the easier the movement becomes. - Place one knee then the other onto the platform, using the handles for support. - Ensuring thumbs are round the bar grab hold of the handles and extend the arms so you are in a fully stretched out position. - Keeping the core engaged, shoulders back and down with the chin and chest lifted, pull yourself up towards the handles. Squeeze and hold for a second before extending the arms and lowering the body down (avoiding locking the elbows) - At the top think of tucking the elbows into the side of the body. - When finishing, pull yourself half way up and then carefully step one leg off at a time. 💗 Recommended rep range: 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 reps. 💗 Common mistakes or things to avoid: - Swinging the body up towards the bar. This should be a slow, controlled movement. - Not engaging the shoulders. Before pulling up, pull your shoulders down and back and keep this throughout. - Flaring the elbows out behind you. When lifting up to the bar elbows should be tucked into the sides of the body. The assisted chin-up/pull-up machine might look a bit intimidating when you first see it, but it’s one of the greatest pieces of equipment you can use to develop a nice back, improve your strength, and practice the pull-up/chin-up pattern. It’s also super easy to set up. The machine offers different grips to choose from. Typically, the wider grip (pull-up) is a bit more challenging, while the neutral grip (chin-up) might be more manageable , depending on your goals and preference Hope it helps 🫶🏼 #chinup#pullup#assistedpullups #gym
