Not enough people realize how MASSIVE of a mistake this is… On the @concept2inc (and pretty much every rowing machine, water rower etc)- you’ve gotta understand that the chain CONNECTS during the stroke sequence at a SLIGHT DIAGONAL angle! It is not “straight in and out of the machine”. Seriously… go film yourself rowing and you will see EVERY TIME the chain snaps up slightly. Every inch of the drive you take before the “snap up” is WASTED because you have little to no connection when the chain isn’t slightly diagonally pulled. While this example in the video might be exaggerated, carrying your hands low is taking most of the efficiency out of your rowing stroke. ❌ The answer is NOT to “scoop” the handle to lift the hands! This is unsustainable at high stroke rates. ✅ Instead, try this drill. Pause at the knees with the handle low to your thighs, then slowly “trickle” aka lift your hands up up up… it’s a SUBTLE movement. Then, drive back with your hands lifted high and notice INSTANTLY how much stronger and connected your stroke feels. Massive difference. The Drive ❌ Incorrect Form: Legs fully straight while leaning over the knees. ✅ Correct Form: Legs extended with an upright body position. The Finish ❌ Incorrect Form: Leaning too far back, elbows flared, and pulling the handle to your collarbone. ✅ Correct Form: Slight lean back with elbows tucked and pulling the handle to the sternum. These tips are focused on peaking power for 10-30ish second sprints primarily! 🔥 Tip 1: don’t bend your legs up all the way! ✅ Focus on heels down, with about a 90 degree leg bend! 🔥 Tip 2: focus on MORE lean at the front! ✅ Peak power comes from the hip swing after the leg drive. Without a lot of lean forward, you’re gonna miss out on power! Think “11 to 1 o’clock” with your body! 🔥 Tip 3: don’t fall off the seat! ✅ Apply your force ONLY horizontally and try to “sit heavy” in the seat! 💪 Combine these tips with aggression and a high stroke rate, and you’re set to CRUSH any row sprint that comes your way! Row Erg Technique 🙌 With how big Hyrox is becoming, I thought I better do a video to break down the rower. Personally, this is my favourite erg but it can be made a lot harder if you aren’t doing good form. So let’s get into it: 1️⃣The Stroke - Think legs, body, arms, then arms, body legs. - Your chest and arms shouldn’t move before your legs are fully extended. - On the reverse, your arms should be fully extended before your knees bend. - Most of the power comes from the legs so think of this movement as a push rather than a pull. - Keep your chest tall at the catch, try not to let your back round too much. 2️⃣Handle Height - Aim for your sternum or your bra strap each stroke. 3️⃣Chain - When coming into the catch (on the way back) try to keep your chain as still as possible & avoid “slapping” the chain. - Focus on keeping the chain inside the box it comes out of without touching the top or bottom. Improve your ROWING TECHNIQUE for HYROX 🚀 Working your technique for the rowing machine is one of the best ways to bring your pace down and also row more efficiently. I learnt this when I used to do rowing as a sport and figured it might help a few out there. Feel free to share! BREAKING THE TECHNIQUE DOWN ⬇️ 1️⃣ The leg drive. Your legs are MUCH stronger than your arms. Start the motion with explosive power from the lower body 2️⃣ The lean back. This is often over exaggerated. It’s a lean back only around 15 degrees or so, and forward about the same when you return to the catch 3️⃣ The arm draw. This is when you engage your lats, rhomboids and arms in particular to keep the momentum going, finishing around the sternum. When you’re rowing at speed, they’re not exclusive of each other, but that’s the order to get the most power. A few watch outs: ❌ DON’T over reach ❌ DON’T pull too high ❌ DON’T break your arms too early ❌ DON’T overly lean back during the pull ✅ Take a few minutes to practice this in order and get used to it. You should have a strong drive pulling back, and then returning to the catch in the reverse order ✅ Exhale as you draw back, and breathe in on your return ✅ Aim for a LOWER STROKE RATE while keeping your speed. If you’re rowing 30-35+ you’re going to gas out ✅ Have the straps tight enough that your heel isn’t lifting right off In terms of other tips, strap yourself into the Once you’re getting it, start to send it within your ability on the day!! 🔥🔥 #RowingTechnique #hyrox #hyroxworld #rowing

Aim for a more even distribution of force, your force curve should look like a smooth bell shape, not a spike.
