Mistaking anxiety for intuition is way more common than people realize. Because they can feel similar: • a tight chest • a “something’s off” sensation • a sudden urge to act fast • racing thoughts that feel like “warnings” But they usually come from two totally different places. Anxiety is often loud, urgent, and repetitive. It pushes you into worst-case scenarios and demands certainty right now. It’s usually fueled by fear, past experiences, or the need to control an outcome. Intuition is typically quieter and steadier. It doesn’t spiral. It’s more like a simple, grounded “no” or “not this” that stays consistent—even when you’re calm. If you’re not sure which one you’re hearing, try this quick check: Ask yourself: 1. Is this feeling frantic or grounded? 2. Do I feel pressure to decide immediately? (anxiety loves urgency) 3. If I take 10 slow breaths, does the feeling get clearer… or louder? 4. Am I responding to a real present signal, or a fear-based story? 5. Does this thought repeat in loops, or does it land once and stay quiet? A helpful rule: If it gets dramatically worse the more you think about it, that’s usually anxiety. If it stays clear without you having to “convince” yourself, it may be intuition. Save this for the next time your brain says “trust your gut” but your body feels like it’s in a fire drill.

If your mind won’t stop worrying, try this… Name it, write it down. Or put it here in these comments and I’ll hold it for you. 🤍 Sometimes the harder I try to run from my mind, the louder it gets. And when I just acknowledge that voice in my head, I find it calms down, even just for a little bit. Comment if you’ve ever felt helpless in taming your worries. I’ve got you! 🤍 #worry #anxiety #relief #ivegotyou #cognitivebehavioraltherapy

Feeling anxious? Before you spiral… ask yourself these 4 questions. Anxiety speeds your thoughts up and makes them feel like facts. These questions, also known as Socratic questioning, help slow the spiral down so you can look at the thought instead of automatically believing it. When you gently challenge the story your brain is telling, you create space for logic, perspective, and choice instead of panic. Save this for the next time your mind starts running. #Anxiety #anxietytherapist #intrusivethoughts #anxietyrelief #anxiousmind

Most anxiety isn’t about confusion. It’s about outcome control. If this resonates, try this: 1️⃣ When you feel “confused,” ask yourself: Do I actually lack information — or do I just not like the uncertainty? 2️⃣ Separate what you know from what you’re trying to predict. Write them in two columns. 3️⃣ Instead of asking “What if this goes wrong?” Ask “If it does, can I handle it?” That question builds capacity. And capacity reduces anxiety more than answers do. Save this for moments when your mind keeps chasing certainty. [Emotional regulation, feeling loss of control, uncertainty in life, distress from the unknown, fear of unknown, decision paralysis, stuck in limbo, decision fatigue, procrastination]

Anxiety isn’t just fear—it’s our mind struggling with uncertainty. When the unknown feels overwhelming, we try to control it by overthinking or overdoing. Our brain dislikes uncertainty and rewards us chemically for the stories we tell ourselves, even when they aren’t true. That’s the danger of assumptions—they reinforce the sense that we’re unsafe. True healing begins when we train our nervous system to feel safe, even in uncertainty. I may not know what’s coming, but I trust I’ll be okay. They may be upset with me, but I’m not upset with myself. Here’s what I’ve discovered about cultivating safety: Safety Right Now – Trauma often lives in the past or future. Orienting to the present moment shows your system “I am safe enough here and now.” 5 Senses for Safety – Use sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell to “show” your body it’s safe, not just tell it. Consistency Compounds – Small, repeated actions to notice and reinforce safety build long-term resilience. Routine & Life Rhythms – Predictable activities, traditions, and rituals provide stability and safety cues. Autonomy Cues – Recognize the choices you do have in any situation, even micro-choices, to build a sense of safety and control. Wondering how to feel safe even when you don’t know what’s next? Your racing heart doesn’t always mean something is wrong. Sometimes, it just means your brain hasn’t decided the story yet. Psychology says anxiety and excitement feel the same in the body same heartbeat, same restlessness, same nervous energy. The only difference is how you label it. If you see it as danger → anxiety If you see it as growth → excitement Same feeling. Different meaning. Different life. Save this for the next time your mind spirals 🤍 You’re not broken, you’re just human.

Anxious thought spirals aren’t a lack of willpower. They’re a cognitive process. The mistake most people make? Trying to stop the thought instead of changing their relationship with it. These are evidence-based defusion and metacognitive strategies used in therapy to reduce anxiety, not by suppressing thoughts but by observing them. You don’t need to believe every thought your mind produces. You need distance from it. Save this & try when needed 🧠 If it feels unmanageable or keeps returning, you don’t have to figure it out alone. We often believe that if we just think about something long enough, we’ll finally feel sure. So you replay the conversation and analyze your feelings. You might check if you’re still “in love” and scan for red flags to try to land on the right answer. For a second, it works… until the doubt comes back louder. The problem was never that you hadn’t figured it out yet. The problem is that your brain learned that uncertainty = danger and “figuring it out” became the safety behavior. That mental loop? That’s not clarity. That’s anxiety asking for reassurance in disguise. Real relief doesn’t come from solving the thought, it comes from learning you don’t have to. You’re not stuck because you haven’t found the answer, you’re stuck because your brain thinks the answer is what will keep you safe. Healing is teaching your nervous system that you can be okay even without one. Save this for the next time your brain says “just think about it a little more.”

🌻 Just because you think it and it feels true....it doesn't mean it is actually true. It's called "emotional reasoning" when a thought feels true so you conclude it must be true. When I first learnt about this it changed everything for me. It's now something that I love talking to my clients about as I think it is empowering. Remember: 💜Not every thought is true 💜Ask yourself is it true 💜 What is the evidence? 💜Is it serving me to think this or do I want to think differently? 💜 What would my friend say? 💜If there were 100 people what would they say? Anxiety will make you feel like you cannot cope and overestimate risk and underestimate your a ability to cope. 💜You are stronger than you think and have dealt with hard things before and can again. ✨ Like and follow for more anxiety and wellbeing tips. 💛 Check out my link in bio if you want to know more about therapy with me. 🌸 Sending love to anyone struggling with anxiety at the moment, take care Claire 😊 #AnxietyAwareness #overthinkingmind #CBTtools #anxiousthoughts

Feel anxious? Start here. Most anxiety advice tells you to fix your thoughts. That’s usually the last step. When anxiety hits, your body is already in survival mode. So I use five simple tools that work with the nervous system, not against it: – Long exhale to interrupt panic – Name the feeling to stop the spiral – One-need question to reduce overload – Grounding back into the body – Noticing to slow the system down You don’t need all five and you don’t need to do them perfectly. You can start with one and see how you feel. Love, Nina ♥️
