STEP UP vs. STEP DOWN; why do we care!? ๐Ÿ‘‡ first, save this to refer back to and share with your gym partner ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ โฌ†๏ธ a step up is more of a power oriented movement that starts at the bottom and moves to a standing position itโ€™s faster, requires a big push through the foot and achieves full hip extension at the top this is important to train for force production through mainly a single leg you can load this one heavier as its concentric action demands less control and more load โฌ‡๏ธ a step down is going to be more force absorption this means tempo matters!!! you think about going as slow as you can to build and maintain tension throughout this move starts at the top standing while you allow one leg to slowly reach back for the ground the goal is to barely tap the ground (IF you can even reach the ground) and use still the leg that is on the step to push yourself back up this one is done with less additional load than a step up and requires the person performing to movement to really understand how to hold tension in a muscle โ†•๏ธ they are both extremely useful as itโ€™s a large range of motion with the hip in flexion (& ankle in dorsiflexion which is another entire convo) hip in flexion means the lower glute is going to be in a stretched position which makes the glute max a huge target tissue when the glute max is strong and powerfulโ€ฆ thatโ€™s the ๐Ÿ‘ everyone wants! shoutout to @projectsunny for helping me demo this ๐Ÿ™Œ ๐Ÿ’• like it!? helpful!? PETERSON STEP DOWN ๐Ÿš€ In my opinion the best exercise to stabilize your knee! I have used these plenty of times in prehab/rehab procedures when dealing with knee pain! If you have knee issues often times this should be a STAPLE in your WARM UP! I like to start with a 20kg Plate and then do 5 slow and controled reps per side! Then I increase by a 10kg plate until I am slightly above parallel! Make sure that you push back your hips in order to engage your glutes! Then step down without actually loading the foot that is touching the floor! ๐Ÿ“ธ: @snatchandsnaps ๐Ÿ“ˆ: @capacityprogram ๐Ÿค: @tommys_tape @affenhand @officialbodylab24 #rehab #kneepain #prehab #berlin #athlete #training #capacityprogram #crossfit

Single leg step downs are one of my favorites ๐Ÿคฉ They help with unilateral strength, balance, and hip stability all of which will help you run more comfortably! Focus on lowering slowly and controlling the eccentric part and then lightly tap the ground but donโ€™t transfer your weight down to the ground. I used a soft box in this video but in order to make it easier to balance you can use a firmer box. You can also hold a light counterweight out in front of you to help you balance. And to make it more challenging you can increase the height of the box. . . . . #singlelegexercises #stabilityforrunners #strengthforrunners #singlelegstrength #singlelegstepdown #stabilityworkout #stabilityexercises #runnerstrength #fitnessmotivation #yeoreo #yeoreoofficial

Then, they bend the affected knee until the heel on the other limb contacts the floor. Finally, they return to the start position and perform a total of five repetitions. ๐Ÿ‘‰Whether you are performing this as a test or an exercise, here are the items that would indicate a potential control issue: 1๏ธโƒฃArm Strategy: removal of hand from waist 2๏ธโƒฃTrunk Alignment: leaning in any direction 3๏ธโƒฃPelvis: loss of horizontal plane 4๏ธโƒฃKnee: center of tibia medial to 2nd toe 5๏ธโƒฃStance: patient steps onto non-test limb โœ…If you want to test your control, simply have someone record your movement and review the results using the criteria above. If an issue is detected, this test can then be used as an exercise on your leg training day. ๐Ÿ“šReference: Rabin A, et al. If your forward step down feels stuck or painful, donโ€™t force it. Unlock it with the right prep exercises first ๐Ÿ‘‡ The forward step down is powerful in rehab because it trains: โ€ข quads to control knee bend โ€ข glutes to stabilise the pelvis โ€ข calves & ankle to absorb load โ€ข tendons to handle slow, controlled stress It teaches your body how to decelerate, not just move. Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s a key drill for knee, ankle & return-to-sport rehab. Do the basics right, then the movement becomes smooth, strong, and pain-free. Save this. Train with intent. Rebuild confidence. #forwardstepdown #rehabmovement #kneestrength #kneepain #badknees
