10,000 Steps A Day Is Bull 💩💩💩💩 This is gonna upset some folks who throw a fit if they don't hit their 10K 😂🙈 In 1965 a Japanese company made a pedometer and named it Manpo-kei.... 🇯🇵Which according to my fluent Japanese means 10,000 Steps meter. 😱It was a MARKETING TOOL😱 So what do you do instead? ❌Look at how many you get now ON A BAD DAY, your good days are not the issue. Then set a target 1,000 steps above that number for 1 week (an extra 10 minutes of walking). Yes on your good days you'll crush the target, but the bad days get a little better. 📈Then the week after if you hit the target all 7 days then increase by another 1,000 steps. Hitting 10k steps is great and I don't want to discourage anyone who does it, but for those who are way lower... OR those who keep trying and failing then this approach works every single time. Get yourself to a consistent 7-8k daily, then if you want to keep going that's awesome. If not that's ok too make that your minimum. #steps #10ksteps #neat

Here are 5 research-backed strategies I use to maximize benefits from even a 10 minute walk. 💪🏽Incline or stairs for greater intensity Inclines increase muscle engagement, heart rate, and calorie burn without lengthening workouts. HOW TO: Start with a 1–2% incline or a few sets of 30–60 second steeper hill intervals, 2–3 times per week and build from there. 💪🏽Interval walking (pushing pace in short bursts) Interval walking boosts cardiovascular fitness and insulin sensitivity more than continuous moderate walking. One study found a significantly larger drop in systolic and diastolic blood pressure with interval walking compared to a continuous 10,000-step group. HOW TO: Alternate 1–2 minutes of brisk walking with 2–3 minutes of easy pace, for 30-45 minutes total. Progress by increasing speed or interval duration gradually. 💪🏽Walk outdoors to support my circadian rhythm Natural light exposure helps regulate sleep-wake cycles, mood, and focus. HOW TO: Aim for outdoor walks in the morning or early afternoon. If it’s a nature walk, studies show that can lower stress. Double win. 💪🏽Weighted Vest Walk or Rucking Yes it’s all the rage and that’s because the added weight increases the stress on the muscles and bones and also the cardiovascular system. I do a weighted vest walk about once a week because I am prone to plantar fasciitis if I do too much (see below). Also NOTE - a weighted vest is NOT a substitute for strength training! HOW TO: Pick the right vest or ruck that doesn’t compromise your posture. And be careful if you have feet / arch issues as the added weight can exacerbate those. Contd in comments ….
